The Blind Sparrow invites you to their fine dining. You can even enjoy the sunshine on their terrace. They are open late all week and are readily reachable by car. They are established in an area filled with parks.
On the Food Network's Top Chef Canada, Kayla Dhaliwall proved she is fearless, able to take on each challenge as they come. Now, the executive chef’s challenge is elevating bar food to a whole new level at the West End’s popular The Blind Sparrow. She's also the executive chef at Hook Seabar.
Drawing from her East Indian roots and extensive experience at local restaurants such as Wild Rice and The Fairmont Waterfront hotel, Kayla puts a new twist on classic comfort food. Think avocado and beet fries, vegan quinoa tacos or three-cheese grilled sandwich and smoked tomato soup.
“I deal with a guy who brings in my fresh produce daily. He deals directly with local farmers and purveyors,” says Kayla. “We make everything in-house, including our corned beef.” Kayla changes up the menu seasonally. “For fall, I take the ling cod off the menu because I prefer not to serve frozen seafood,” she notes. However, in order not to cause a mutiny with her loyal clientele, she quips she will “never take the fried chicken off the menu.”
All you have to do at The Blind Sparrow is pull up a chair, scan the mainly-French wine list and enjoy a glass from a winery in one of France's famous grape-growing regions. Tip: wait until happy hour to save some serious cash.
The Blind Sparrow gastrotavern recently took over the old LeftBank space and has quickly become a popular place to hang out on Denman. Live music, a wide range of craft beers and B.C. wines, plus plenty of share plates like boar ribs and spicy prawn tacos, make it a sociable spot to meet up with friends.
