Clean and attractive eat-in area. Fast take-out service, but fish batter needs to be CRISPY and fries less soggy.
I brought my brother and his wife to Captain George's Cobourg today for dinner. Went to walk to a table and noticed the floors were very slippery with grease. This is a dangerous situation. I've never had this happen before. The staff is excellent very friendly waiter but these floors need attention.
Not impressed when waitress served the water glasses by holding them with three fingers where you will put in your mouth, my plastic glass was cracked and left a puddle on the table. Worse of all the fish was cut paper thin. This place should be called "Batter and Chips".
The fish was covered in too much batter, and the grease soaked the batter. The chips were overdone, and like the fish, covered in way too much oil. The salad was limp and tasted like as if it was sitting in the dressing for an hour.
I ordered a regular sized fish and chips as take-out. When I opened the bag, the box was smeared on the side with lard/shortening. The chips were overdone and the fish portion was very small compared to the batter. Not memorable in a good way.
Save the trip, cook up a box of frozen fish and chips in your oven at home might not be better then whats offered at Captain Georges but it certanly wont be any worse
If you go slightly later, around 8:00 p.m., the crowd has thinned out and it will make for a more relaxing meal. I usually ask for extra Feta cheese on my Greek salad and it comes with a heaping serving. The dinner includes two generous filets of halibut in a light & tasty batter. The fries are a combination of crispy and non-crispy, so you get a chance to pick your favourites. The beverage choices could be better, a nice fresh homemade lemonade would be perfect for a summertime drink with dinner. The service is excellent.
this was my first time visiting this establishment. i have been once before but couldn't get a seat because they were packed, so i decided to try it out one day when it was not as busy. and the fish and chips was truthfully the best around. i really enjoyed it and shall be back again. keep up the good work.
This was our first time here, and will for sure be back again. We used to go to Port Hope, but this is much closer to us. and from the experience, much better. They have alot more variety on food and the service and staff are very friendly. i highly recommend this place to others if you haven't tried it yet.
Cobourg got what it needed. I went in with my wife and friend of ours and we had two fish dinners, and one souvlaki dinner. Everything was fantastic fish is nice and light, and the portions were great. its really really busy too. so we will defenitly be back again.
We knew about this place from the Port Hope Captain George's and decided to give it a try with some regular friends of ours. The batter was thicker and the chips were not as good as the other one, they were greasier, who doesn't love greasy fries...The place was full, since it recently opened but the atmosphere was not as enjoyable as what we were used to. I think i will be sticking to the Captain George's in Port Hope.
