I would like to relate our experience at your restaurant on the evening of August 4th, 2010. My Daughter and her family have a trailer on the Bonnechere River in Eganville. Several times a year my wife and I visit my Daughter, her Husband and twin 2 year old Granddaughters. On these occasions we take the opportunity to enjoy a meal at one of the fine restaurants in Eganville and as such, we often go to the Granary. We made reservations at the Granary for 5:30 PM, we arrived at approximately 5:25 and were seated. About 15 minutes later the waitress came to take our orders. At that time, the restaurant was not too busy but began to fill up fairly quickly. We were never offered more drinks however we were offered some warm rolls around 6:10 or so. On two occasions after we received the rolls the waitress stopped by to tell us that our dinner was on the way. At 6:30 I finally went to the counter and asked what the problem was and she told me that the restaurant was busy. I told her that several people that arrived well after us had already left the restaurant. We were finally served our meal at about 6:45PM and my son-in-law was served something that he did not order. As his order was input incorrectly the waitress said that he would not be charged for the meal. The meal was not what he wanted but at that point in time, we were not about to re-order. He did not eat much of the meal and overall our experience was the worst one we have ever had at the Granary. When we received our bill, my son-in-law was charge $1.50 for the Caesar salad which would have been appropriate had his meal been correct but at that point there should have been no charge for anyone's meal, let alone charging for a Caesar salad with a meal that was incorrect. Needless to say, we were very disappointed with our experience that evening and very disappointed with how the unfortunate situation was dealt with. I tried to send an e-mail to the restaurant but their e-mail address does NOT work.
I''m picky about my schnitzels, having been raised in a German-Austrian family. I had high hopes about this place after reading the online rave reviews, and the place did not disappoint. The schnitzel was thin and crispy and not at all heavy and oily. The wiener schnitzel required lots of lemon and a bit of extra salt for my taste, but otherwise, it was very, very good. My fiancé gobbled his Bavarian schnitzel. He hardly said a word during the meal, which is always a good sign. The imported beer he ordered was served in a .5 L beer stein and very good. Both schnitzels were served alongside creamy mashed potatoes with gravy and broccoli and cauliflower. There was plenty of food, and we both rolled out of the place. Our only disappointment was that we didn''t have room to try any of the tempting desserts listed on the extensive menu. Eganville is truly a gem of a town and well worth the drive. Highly recommended!
