It's changed hands to another owner since then. It's great now. The Friday nite fish and chips are amazing. They are so yummy and reasonable priced. I have no idea what these other people are talking about.
We come up every year to our cottage and we eat at this restaurant daily when we are up. We have always gotten our meal the way we like it, and it is always delicious. The atmosphere is what you can expect from and older restaurant and could use some up-dating. They have the most amazing prices when you compare to what they charge us in the big city, and you are full when you leave. We complained that we no longer could get our bottomless cup of coffee like they used to give us, but we got a good enough reason and now we don't mind paying the extra buck. They say that coffee prices have skyrocketed and in order to keep the price low they need to limit the coffee they give away, besides you can't go to Tim Horton's and drink three cups of coffee for about a buck is what Alma's charges. The staff there is also great we really like Tanya she knows what we're eating before we even say hello. It's owned by a Greek family I believe and one of them is usually always there and they are very friendly people to talk with. Overall I would recommend this restaurant to people who enjoy the good ol' "family restaurant" environment and prices.
My husband and I like to have bfst out. Thought we'd try to find somewhere in Elmvale. Stopped at Alma's. Particularly stressed that we both wanted our eggs over MEDIUM. Eggs came with yolks uncooked and whites like jelly inside. Sausage was very odd tasting, almost a strong, gamey flavour. The plate was covered in grease. Strictly enforced is the 2 cup quota on coffee, which we find offensive, since the waitress only topped my husband's mug up and indicated she was doing him a great favour when he later wanted his second cup. When we complained about the eggs, she stated that "Tom", the chef, must be having a bad day as most of the eggs had been served undercooked that morning. She figured that perhaps he wasn't feeling very well. My husband passed by a kitchen that he called "grotty". We weren't looking for a comp meal but it really would have been good customer service to knock off a couple of dollars, especially as we were 1/2 an hour late to get the bfst special and had to pay $1.00 extra per plate. Very poor, to say the least, and will not be frequenting this restaurant with our custom again. (Not that they probably care!!) One last disturbing factor was that the hot water in the Mens' Washroom has been shut off which makes me question the sanitary practices of the male chef when he uses these facilities. Perhaps it might be prudent for the health department to inspect this restaurant.
Don't even think about going. Fish and chips were soggy, lasagna was cold. The toilets were over flowing and the place smells like stale smoke.
The cook was smoking outside on the front steps between cooking meals and the over cooked rubbery chicken actually smelled of smoke. Could not even eat it. The only thing worse was the condition of the bathrooms. Run. Run fast the other way.
