they have roaches that I saw running around the bathroom. I was scared to eat there so i just paid for drinks with my husband and left.
Had been visiting this restaurant for 7 years quite frequently. Our waitress screwed up our order twice to which we were very pleasant and understanding. The owner came and apologized. We get our bill and I ask to speak to the owner regarding a litlle compensation for the inconvenience our waitress comes and simply says sorry no and the owner would not even come out to speak with us. Terrible customer service. Word of mouth and social media now makes and breaks a small business.
We went to this place once and decided not to go there ever. The service was very poor and the server was too harsh. When we enquired about the billing details she didn't give a proper response. I always tip the restaurants I visit upon their service and the quality of food and I feel that it's my right to decide on what I should tip them. But here the owner just add tip amount to the bill itself and there is no explanation about it when we enquired. Such a ridiculous place. Never recommended
Love Montfort. Always good. One of my favourites.
Me and my husband go to Montfort's all the time now that we have finally tried it. The waitresses are all very attentive and quick and the food is addicting. We love the garlic and onion curry sauces they bring with every meal. My favourite dish is the swarma chicken dish with rice and the fattoush salad, sometimes we get take out because were craving it its so good. Our friend's like to go there after the bar too because they are open really late and the food hits the spot. Overall, a great restaurant and very affordable. Big portion sizes too! Definetly happy we found such a great Mediterranean restaurant!
I always go to Montforts for lunch... I love it there the food is amazing. I love the steak sandwich and the sauces are amazing especially the hot sauce...
Perched in small spaces, Montforts chain of restaurants serve Mediterranean cuisine. The atmosphere is nicely decorated and very clean, creating an overall good mood when entering the restaurant. The space itself is a fair size, although it is smaller than most restaurants, creating a bit of a crammed middle where all the tables lay. The atmosphere overall was enjoyable though. Being seated right away, our waitress was prompt and very helpful, always getting whatever was needed without a fuss, as well as being very polite. There was no problems with the service, and the dips that they bring for the platters are delightful! The only concern with that would be the size, but it is understandable not to give too much for it could just be wasted. The menu covers a vast variety of dishes, from chicken to pork, and shwarma to souvlaki. The portion sizes during my experiences have been quite enough, always leaving me too full for the ride home! And don't get me wrong, I have a fair sized appetite! Ordering the Montforts' special dish with rice, pineapple, and their signature chicken, I was very happy with it. The only thing I would say is they should maybe give bigger pita's with the meals. As far as portion and food goes, they have multiple share plates where people can try a little bit of everything on the menu. This is a good idea, although their prices are a little bit outrageous for these. Understanding that you are getting a multitude of things, $100 is a little bit excessive for the share plates. The prices on the individual meals can be considered pricey depending on what you are getting. Overall, Montforts is a delightful place for a meal, and I would recommend it to future restaurant goers. I know I will be going there again!
While Montfort is a chain of restaurants, not all locations are created equal. I have visited the Upper James branch on several occasions, and while I was generally satisfied with it on most of those occasions, I understand why it gets negative reviews. Their food is always tasty; however, their portion sizes leave a lot to be desired. I once shared the mazza for two and it came out looking more like the mazza for one. Don't give up on the Montfort chain; go to the Ancaster location on the corner of Stonechurch and Golflinks if you want fantastic food. It is newer and, thus, not as well known as the Upper James location. Be prepared for a long dinner if you're there at peak times, because they have a small waitstaff, but the food is worth it. You feel like you've been invited to the owners' house for a home cooked meal, and the portions are much larger than those served on Upper James. Have anything on the menu; it is all excellent. My favourite items include their taboule, lentil soup, baba ghanoush, falafel, montfort chicken, pork shashlik, kafta, and chicken souvlaki. To be fair, their hummus does not have a lot of flavour and their shawarma sandwich does not fit the profile of an authentic Arabic shawarma, but the chicken is still tasty. Remember: Go to Stonechurch, not Upper James. You won't be disappointed.
The atmosphere is just ok. It has potential but they need to work on the finer details. I ordered the Chicken Shawarma pita and Lentil soup. The flavour (shawarma) was a little bland and it was very small (not the standard size pita you get other places). The pita itself was fresh and good, though. I enjoyed the soup and appreciated the fresh pita that came with it for dipping. The presentation was laughable...The shawarma came sitting in the bottom of a standard white bowl! No garnish or anything....just a small shawarma sitting in the bottom of a bowl. I had to laugh. My wife also ordered the shawarma (in a bowl) as well as fries (yes, also in a bowl). The service was reasonably quick and attentive but without any flair (no smiling, no "how is everyone tonight", no "thanks for coming"). This is my second time eating at Montfort (the other time was in Dundas). I wasn't impressed at all with that location but tried this location because our dining companions suggested it. I'm still not impressed. I don't think I'll be eating at Montfort again.
We thought we would go out for a late dinner at the montfort. Our food was cold and our chicken was so dry. I had asked for our plates of food to be returned and made fresh, however our server put her hand on my plate and said it was hot. I was so upset with this that I asked for the bill and left. I will never return to this place again. I was so disgusted... I do not like the way this situation was poorly handled. The manager wasn't even present to complain..
We have dined at the montfort many times in burlington and wanted to try the new location in hamilton on the mountain. My friend and I had our favourites, tomato feta plate, baba ganosh, and of couse grilled chicken salad. It tasted very different from the burlington location, very fresh and yummy. We only had one complaint, our waitress was so missing in action. We had been greeted sat down to our booth and our drink order was taken. She brought our beverages to us and said she would give us a few minutes to look over the menu. We pretty well knew what we were going to have, however we did not see her for a very long time after that. I can tell you we waited a good twenty minutes before we ordered our appetizers and main meals. We also were never asked how our food was or if we needed anything. My friend asked for the check and again we waited a while. Service is really slow there. Our food was really yum!!! We may return again. I never had bad service at the other montfort in burlington. I could understand if they were busy but on a monday night at 9pm it was quiet. We will try the westdale location next time.
okay, I have heard so much about the montfort on upper james that we, my boyfriend wolfgang and another couple joined us for dinner. Our friends have been to 2 other locations in oakville and burlington and told us that it was always grat food and service. Well upperjames location is by far the nicest designed atmosphere that our friends stated that evening last saturday. Unfortunately our server was terriable. I asked a few questions regarding the menu and the wines etc. I was told sorry i don't know I don't even eat here.. How unproffesional..I asked if the montfort was owned by the same owner as the other locations, and was answered back with no the other owners are better to work for.. Our food took 30 mins for the app and another 42mins for the main course.. Than we asked for the bill our server once again was too busy talking with the manager or boss laughing and whatever... We missed our movie to say the least. The food was very tasty and we did enjoy it.. The service was terrible!!!! Where do they hire these people.. A pretty face or cute figure shouldn't be the only qualities in hiring restaurant staff. Yes our server was very attractive, however very rude and could care less of her customers.. We did leave a tip but not all that good considering we waited another 23mins for our bill. I do not feel we will go to this location again unless service improves.. What a shame as it is very nice inside and thev food was very good..
We dined at the montfort in dundas for the first time... We have been to the other locations which were fine.. The service was brutal as we waited for her to take our drink order for 14 mins... The atmosphere looked like a road house/ bar instead of a middleastern restaurant.. Our food was nasty and dry.. the shawarma... they changed the red sauce too much/ cummin.. We will never go back again to this location.. The servers were too busy talking to friends they knew in the restaurant to attend to our needs... The upper james location is nice, food is good service is terriable.. I will stick with brant street burlington.. I hate to complain but service is vital, and so far both of these locations have failed miserably.. The servers are too busy flirting, or ignoring their customers.. Our server looked like she rolled out of bed with caked on make up. An irorned uniform looks nicer and presenrable....
One of my favorite places in Hamilton. Their shawarma has a unique taste. I like the salad and calamari as well.
Very generous portions, simply delicious, fantastic service, I WILL be returning. Food was 10/10 - fantastic!
Very generous portions, simply delicious, everything cooked to perfection, fantastic service, I WILL be returning. Food was 10/10 - fantastic!
The decor was beautiful too bad the server that served us was horrible I have dined at other locatons and they were great but I can't say the same about upper james location.
I really enjoyed it the first time. The second time not as much, but it was really busy. There really where to many people in there, it is small. Though I thought the food was well portioned. I took some food home both times.
The place looked really nice as soon as we entered and I was excited for some middle eastern food. That was where good ended. We didn't see our waitress for an eternity who seemed like she was more preoccupied with her cell phone than taking care of us. Furthermore, it seemed like we were a burden for her rather than feeling welcome. The food...in a word: disaster. First of all it took forever. That would be fine if it was worth it. You guessed it...no it wasn't worth it. It was dry and the portions were smaller than other locations we have gone to. When we tried to talk to our waitress about our issues she seemed disinterested and with that, we lost our interest in this restaurant. In a word: pathetic.
id rather eat at a no name hole in the wall than this place. its the worst place ive eaten at in awhile. expensive with tiny portions and everything was overcooked and the service was garbage. im never going back
