I was curious to see what the fuss was about here. I agree with many of the posters here that the food is excellent and the service is attentive. I disagree with the posts that the decor is dated. I thought it was classic and elegant. The room we dined in had a vintage late 20th century look that matched the age of this well built house. Real oak doors, oak trimwork and a real brick and mortar fireplace provide warmth and character. It is annoying to see places that replace classic fixtures with things just because they are newer. The carpet and acoustic tiles may not be chic enough for some diners, but for family and date atmosphere, they attenuate the background noise which is most welcome.
We have driven by Piatto many times and decided to finally give it a try. We arrived on a Saturday evening and the restaurant was starting to fill up. We asked if we could still sit down to have a meal despite not having any reservations. The host was kind enough to seat us in a nice room at the side with a great view. The restaurant itself is very elegant, lots of light, decorative pieces, and great table decor! We were served by a server named Michele. He was very nice, friendly, and funny! We instantly felt comfortable with his light humour and friendly smile. We ordered the Calamari Fritti to start. They were probably the best calamari I have ever had! Crunchy yet tasty! The sauce that it came with was great, although I would have loved more since it tasted so good! We then ordered our main meals, which was the gnocchi. The gnocchi were amazing! Especially the one with the white cream sauce, it tasted creamy and fresh. I loved it! The gnocchi were nice and soft, with great texture, just the way gnocchi should be. We then ordered the Baked Goat Cheese Salad. The goat cheese was baked with a hot tomato, along with a salad and raspberry dressing on the side. The goat cheese was amazing, especially since it was hot, it melted in my mouth. Last but not least, the Tiramisu. To be honest, the Tiramisu was OK, it wasn't the best I have ever had, it didn't have as much liquor or espresso as I would have hoped. Overall, the meal was excellent, the service was great (thank you Michele!) and the atmosphere was superb. Will definitely be back to this place!
As a lifelong resident of Mississauga, I have NEVER been to Piatto...'til yesterday. Always driving past it, I guess I just dismissed it as a place for "stuffy, old, White people". Yes, I suppose I was the only visible minority in there tonight, but it was anything but stuffy! ;) We were greeted at the door, my chair was pulled out, and welcomed by a friendly waiter. All good signs and quite contrary to what I expected. There was a board with specials listed, but we decided to forgo and order off the menu. (Waiter was also nice enough to explain some specials.) We shared the baked goat cheese (app), my partner got the gnocchi, I had the paella, and we ended with a chocolate espresso paté - sorta like a ganache. The goat cheese was delicious with a raspberry sauce. My paella was piping hot, very tasty, and didn't appear to lack in seafood such as shrimps, calamari, sausage, etc. YUMMM. Overall, I regret that I didn't try Piatto earlier! It was a classy, fine dining experience without the noses in the air.
Food was good and wait staff was attentive.
We've been dining here for 11 years and it is our favourite restaurant. Our last visit was on August 29th 2009 and as usual the food was amazing and the service exceptional. This is a white table cloth, classy place with a rustic charm. The mushroom soup had an assortment of mushrooms including porcini and the flavour was out of this world. Along with the beautiful assortment of fresh bread this was a meal on its own. The halibut was flaky and moist and the veggies that came with it fresh and crisp. The fresh tomato sauce was full of herbs and very tasty. I stole some fresh chanterelles from my husband's veal plate and they were delicious as well. The mango cheesecake was light and fluffy, and the chocolate eclair was filled with good quality ice cream and a nice change from regular cream. The house wines are excellent and the Merlot I had very good. Another thing you might want to know about this place, they don't chase you out when you're done like some other restaurants do, but once you give the sign you're ready to leave you will get your bill without delay. The owners of this restaurant take pride in this place and you can always expect the best in food and service. Highly recommended!
Well, I was always told this it a great place, maybe I went on an off day. The martinis were good! The decor was dated from the 1980's not in a good way (if there is one) the linens were not crisp, male wait staff, very attentive, but over all the food was good, but there was something lacking. We went for lunch, to be honest I don't think I'd go back again
After several friends recommended Piatto as their favorite in Mississauga I decided to give it a try. It's a spacious and comfortable restaurant with a large covered patio. The daily specials menu board was brought to the table and left while we made our decisions, a convenience that I wish more restaurants would practice as I always seem to forget half as soon as the server departs from table side. The restaurant had a strange, damp odor in it, maybe the carpet had just been cleaned as the doors were propped open in the hope of getting fresh air inside. The soup was a good rendering of a menu standard, nothing remarkable though. The tuna appetizer came with a single hastily marinated shrimp that was still raw in spots. And when are restauranteurs going to learn that the plural of shrimp is shrimp? Not "shrimps"? Is anyone else beginning to notice that often restaurant food quality is directly related to spelling accuracy on the menu? We both ordered the same main and were surprised at how small a portion we received considering the $18 price. Three broken pieces of sea scallop and three small shrimp topped a small mound of pasta surrounded by a puddle of under seasoned olive oil. This was not the expected richly flavored sauce most Italian restaurants serve. The vanilla ice cream filled profiteroles were drizzled with an adequate chocolate sauce. Unfortunately the pastry had a somewhat stale taste indicating they have been too long in the freezer after assembly. A freshly brewed cup of coffee to finish was rich and tasty. Service throughout the meal was prompt and competent. I was surprised that on a Friday there was only one other couple dining here. Perhaps there is a better experience here in the evening.
This is the best restaurant I have ever been to, I used to work on a cruise ship, so believe me I have been in many places around the world.
Went for one year anniversary for a special night. Had a wonderful time, it was a very special night. Wait staff was wonderful to us (though we've been here numerous times before, so they recognize us), attentive but not annoying. Reasonable prices for how good the food is.
I have dined at this charming restaurant numerous times, and the food is always divine, and the service is outstanding. The atmosphere is relaxing, the waiters friendly, and courteous, and I am alway welcomed with a friendly smile.
We went to Piatto on Friday, March 9 for my friend's Birthday. We were directed to a table in the room with the Bar. At the time we arrived 7:00 p.m. it was not crowded. As time went on the restaurant filled up (which I believe must be normal). I felt that since we weren't "regulars" that our waiter did not give us the attention we should be have received. Also, one of the wait staff kept bumping my friend's chair to the point that she had to speak to him and ask him to be more careful. The food was wonderful, but we all mentioned that the staff seemed to be acting "frantic" and this was not called for, especially as they are "seasoned" staff. As this was our friends first time at Piatto we asked if they would come back - they replied, probably not on a weekend, but maybe during the week. They go out to many restaurants in Mississauga many times so I was disappointed for her on her birthday that her first time at Piatto was not the best.
An excellent restaurant! The atmosphere is very warm and the staff do a great job looking after you. The food was amazing! I had the Caesar Salad, which had an incredable dressing that was just right. I also had the Paella, which was a huge dish packed full of seafood and meat. For dessert, I had the Mango Cheesecake, a very light and delicious choice. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for delicious Italian (and some Spanish) food.
very generous portions. Food stays hot till the last bite ! Dessert is to die for !!!! Great for corporate entertainment !!
an ital restaurant with a chef from Madrid! lots of great specials on the daily special board. excellent meat and fish. Great espresso and cappuccino! quiet, white tablecloths ... would be great for a business dinner. super friendly service, not in the least pretentious.
