My favourite restaurant in Thornhill < hmm maybe Toronto. Consistently great food, awesome service and wonderful ambiance. Plus when they kick that quartet up on the weekend , feels like your in a great jazz restaurant. I keep coming back.
Terra, more like TERROR. My boyfriend and I visited for my birthday last Saturday, The service was unacceptable. The waiter split RED wine all over my boyfriends clothes and was not apologetic. We asked for chardonnay and the waiter brought us Merlot??? We felt like we did not belong. The manager was very condescending and we did not stay, We will never visit again. It seems like this resturant has its regulars and clearly we are not. Very dissatisfied with this so called "high end dining"
The food was good, the atmosphere is indeed classy and the service polite, diligent but thankfully understated. We were happy with our food and while I agree good doesn't come cheap usually I want to point out that Terra does have inexpensive options as well
One of the most consistent restaurants in Canada. Chef is very imaginative and careful enough to feature foods that are at their seasonal prime. Service is attentive but not overbearing. Host knows his wine pairings and is quick to point out great value from an extensive wine list. Seafood is spectacular! Unfortunately, good ain't cheap and cheap ain't good.
Last evening was our first time there and we enjoyed it all! The food and service were excellent. We especially enjoyed the shared appetizers and desserts. Everything was extremely well executed by our server who was very humorous, knowledgable and attentive. We definitely recommend this restaurant as it would turn any special occasion into a 'WOW'!
I don't know why some people rave about Terra. It is terrible, and that's being kind. Grossly overpriced. Hot food was lukewarm. Waiters looked bored and showed it with poor service. They just don't treat a customer right. Extremely poor value for money spent. Walk twenty paces south. Much better place to eat.
First time out, celebrating the launch of a new company with my wife. We did have a drink while waiting for our table. The bars staff was switched on and served us quickly. We people watched for less than 10 minutes and caught the jazz 3 piece playing at the perfect level. Not to loud, not too soft. There was a good crowd that evening. I had made reservations earlier in the day, and requested a quiet table in the back somewhere. That's exactly what we got. Tucked away in a nice corner, I had a chair and my wife was on a nice comfortable overstuffed bench. The atmosphere was excellent. Conversation was audible from neighboring tables, but not quite loud enough to hear, unless you actively eavesdropped, which we did. It's as much a part of the experience as the meal! Our server was top notch. He was there at just the right times, he watched our glasses from a distance, and I often caught him scanning his area to see if anyone wanted some attention. Food was spectacular. That's not overstated. I am not unfamiliar with good food. I've paid more for less in the past. As with all things in life, good service makes up for poor food and good food makes up for poor service. We have both excellent food AND excellent service, so the night was magical. The wine list is to die for. They have an excellent cellar. I managed to control myself and had an superb Cabernet recommend by our waiter. It was all I could do not to indulge in the 71 Chateau Haute Brion (don't ask the price). I may go back for it if business does well. Really well. Overall, for my first and only visit so far, I was quite blown away. I will have to reserve judgment further until I can go again. And I will be going again.
It was our first time at "Terra". We went there for Sundaylicious. Our food was amazing. I had one of the best lamb shanks ever! The service was great. I would strongly recommend to try Sundaylicious menu since you get delicious 3 course meal for 35$ and the portions are large (not like during Summerlicous or Winterlicious)
Expensive prices will always be divisive and will split opinion with clientele. Expectations will be sky-high, even unreasonable. However we went to Terra without expectations, and had an excellent dinner. Our reservation was in order and waited a few minutes at the bar while we ordered our drinks and our table was cleared. The calamari were perfectly tender, and the arugula salad with the Bosc pear and Stilton cheese is one of my favourites. The spaghettini had generous portions of scallops and grilled shrimp, and the lamb with the honey mustard jus was succulent. The live jazz was a perfect accompaniment, not too loud and good selection of songs. regarding the water, I have encountered the "water scam," mentioned in a review below at other restaurants, namely the $7.50 and up bottle of water. But at Terra we were explicitly given the option of what type of water we preferred, and did not have a problem with the bill being padded by unwanted bottles being brought to the table. Overall, a pleasurable experience.
We have been to Terra a few times in the past but our last experience there was terrible. Our main entree was the seafood platter for two, which was quite ordinary. We asked for some ground pepper to add some taste and was handed pepper shakers! Our server seemed bored and acted as if we were disturbing him the whole evening. This will be our last time at Terra.
After reading the negative reviews, I thought dinner was going to be a disaster but we had a gift certificate so we had to go eventually. Boy am I glad we went. Service was top-notch and the food was amazing. Prices are a bit expensive, but everyone in my party was really impressed with the food and especially with the service. We went on a Sunday evening and took advantage of the Sunday-licious menu ($35 fixed price). Two thumbs up.
For this kind of prices, we expected great service and quality food. Instead, we had a slow unattentive waiter and oversalted and peppered food that lacked any original taste. It is one of places that pretend to be the top of the line but fail to be the one because of snobbish atmosphere and terribly cooked yet very overpriced food.
service is hit and miss....and at these prices it should be MUCH more predictable. We have been here many times, and find that you never know what you will be treated like.Complain and nobody cares!!!They just treat you this way the next time.Service needs to improve!!!
Terra! where! I can not believe this restaurant got goods reviews from many magazines. Chek out their website and testimonials then whatever written are opposite. First of all, they messed up with our reservation, however they found us a table.I suppose that they always let people wait for the table to create vibes at the bar. We were ok with that but not after the hostess took us the the table behind the service counter, where all the staff use to prepare their cutlery. There was also a heater under the table, so we looked at each other wondering why? We found out few minutes later. It was freezing. The draft blowed in through the window. Let me tell you again it was December 8, 2006. We tried to tell them but this issue was ignored. We discussed whether or not we should leave. We didn't have choices. I had to go back to Bangkok on Dec 12. The food was tasteless. They were very busy so nobody's care about us. People might be curious what take me so long to post my review. Honestly I didn't know what to do about my disappointed experience at Terra. My husband and I got this dinner as a wedding gift from his uncle's family. We called them many times to explain what happened again nobody's care to our comments. It was my first in Toronto. We have had very good experiences with fine restaurants in Montreal and Downtown Toronto and expected the same with Terra. Very disappointed!!!. Now I live here and noboby in my family will ever eat thee again
We had family from abroad visiting and decided to go someplace special. Not only was the food remarkable, but, the service was top notch. To be honest, I can't for the life of me figure out what these negative reviews are all about. We live just down the street and have been regulars there for years with only the odd little upset along the way. Look forward to our next special occasion.
The last time we ate at Terra before this passed August was 20 years ago. I guess our memory had faded as to why we hadn't returned. This is why: the food is over-rated and way over-priced given portion size and quality. I honestly don't know why it is popular. We think it's the "Soto Soto" syndrone where people go because it may be considered chic and pricey and therefore must be good. Well, average is all they are. My memory will last this time, and we will not return.
