Not too happy with him right now. My Dad is in the Hospital and not doing well at all. As a Family Physician he has not shown one ounce of concern for his patient. Very disappointed and disheartened.
Dr. Frank Karantonis is both highly personable and professional. He is able to make time to see patients when emergencies or serious concerns develop even though there is no pre-scheduled appointment. He follows through promptly on referrals and works diligently to try and minimize wait times when doing so. He is thorough and checks in regarding previous health concerns even when that is not the reason for the appointment. He gives patients great confidence in his ability as a physician.
I recently had a medical condition that continued to be misdiagnosed in Emergency. Dr. Frank Karantonis not only diagnosed my condition correctly from the start but continually follow up with the hospital to ensure I got the care I needed. If it was not for his care and follow up my condition would have worsened and turned into a major life threatening condition. Not only has Dr. Karantonis done an excellent job of taking care of my health but I trust him to take care my family's health as well
I just have to say #1 thing about Dr. Karantonis is his bedside manner. I am always nervous going to the doctor, especially male doctors since I am a woman. When I heard Dr. Karantonis wasn't going to be a female, I became worried. But, WOW was I surprised!! He is the nicest, kindest, gentlest physician in all of the land! He broke the ice with a joke about how his "Greek Name" Fotis is spelled just like my last name and I haven't looked back! It's like having a family doc...in the family! A++!!
Dr. Karantonis served as my family's physician during the last two years of his residency in Chicago. During that time, in addition to regular check-ups and visits for things like pink eye and ear infections, he also diagnosed and treated my hypothyroidism, provided prenatal care and delivered my second child, and provided counseling on some stresses and factors in my life that were causing depression, anxiety, and even physical pain. He also served as a pediatrician to my disabled older child and my newborn son that he delivered.
I read people very well, and what always impressed me about Dr. Karantonis was that his compassion and concern for his patients was genuine. He never struck me as affected or insincere, nor did he project an air of being too busy or having much better things to do like so many doctors do. He always took the time to answer my questions, assuage my concerns, and explain the rationales behind the treatments he was recommending. As the parent of a child with disabilities--a child who has had 4 surgeries in her 8 years on this earth--I have seen a LOT of doctors and specialists, have noted the differences in how medical professionals treat their patients, and I can assure you: Dr. Karantonis is one of the best.
I understand that obstetrics is not a part of his practice now, but I also think it says a lot about him that he provided respectful, evidence-based maternity care when I am someone who had previously had a traumatic birth experience. My son's birth was one of the best days of my life and I feel strongly that it was such a good experience in part due to Dr. Karantonis' kindness and respect for my wishes.
Chicago misses him, Toronto is lucky to have him.
