Very friendly and excellent food.
Service is bad and so is the food.Never Have I had a ruben with cheese? That is a other one I will cross of my list.
Always get delicious and authentic food here for a decent price.
Beware of George! I was a happy customer of Old Country Inn for more than 10 years by now. Always liked the atmosphere there, the helpful and friendly staff and enjoyed the menu (partially for it reminded me about my two years spend in Austria long time ago). For these reasons, I held many departmental dinners and lunches in this restaurant, recommended it to my friends and, after moving into my own business, invited my clients and prospects to here as well. On Saturday May 4, 2012, my wife and I were passing by after a long work day in late afternoon and decided to stop by for an early supper (it was about 5 pm). We were greeted and seated by a nice female waiter, placed our drink order and started to go through the menu when a male person named George appeared and without greeting announced that the table was reserved in about an hour of time and that we needed to move to another table where we might get up to two hours before someone else will come. (There were no ‘Reserved’ signs on any table around and restaurant was just about 75% full). The waiter who seated us seemed to be a bit troubled explaining she did not know about the reservations. After a brief discussion, we decided to leave. At the door, my wife asked George what happened and why he seems to be prejudging us – his answer was: “there is coffee shop next door, you can go there”. Given this experience, we have informed our friends and clients about this incident to leave it up to them whether or not they want to meet George and deal with his way of doing business.
Went for a lunch and was pleasantly surprised to find the owner seating us. The waitress was very friendly and the food was hot. Great sandwiches and my friend has the most beautiful salad I had every seen for like $10. I have to go back and take my family for dinner.
It's been awhile but "Oh My Goodness", still great. The service is excellent, the owner greats you at the door and the food is still home-made. Prices have risen slightly but the value is still there. Hard to find home-made anymore. We'll be back soon.
My boyfriend and I have visited this place twice together. Apparently, the previous reviewer cannot appreciate the true sense of this restaurant's atmosphere which has plenty of character & is cozy, warm and inviting. Not every restaurant is suited to go through a transformation in order to be 'modernized' like many others. During our last visit, we ordered the platter for 2, which honestly could've easily fed 4. There was very generous portions of schnitzel, home fries, salad to name a few. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and ended up taking home the leftovers which fed us the next day for lunch. The owner is nice enough to thank us for visiting as we left. We will definitely be back and this time, perhaps we will invite 2 guests to join us and enjoy the 2 person platter.
We have been visiting The Old Country Inn for more than fifteen years. We made a reservation for this evening at our usual table after a two year absence due to economics. The atmosphere, greeting by the owner on entering, service and food were to exactly the same high level as we remembered from previous visits. The prices seem to have risen slightly for several menu items, to be expected. Excellent fine dining experience overall. Highly recommend this restaurant.
I have to agree with others, this place look very dated. Like being in a 70's time warp! When we read the menu we were very excited. My hubby is german and this is food we eat on a regular basis. So much we wanted to try. So we ordered lots. But it all fell a little short of our expectations. The food was lacking flavor. My dh almost asked for some Magi to sprinkle on his food! We may go back because we always figure we just ordered the worst menu items and we will give them another chance, but then again there should not be "bad" menu items!
I'm not sure where the last reviewer ate but it certainly was not at the Old Country Inn. My family has been going to this restaurant for the last eght years and have enjoyed it every time. Yes, the place is run by humans so mistakes do happen but they are always corrected right away and always with a smile. The food is fantastic and the service is superb. You are greeted when you walk through the door and when you leave. This restaurant cares about your experience. So I say to the last reviewer, "Did you really dine at the restaurant?" I don't think you did.
This place has the worst service ever. The owner does not care about his customers AT ALL. Owner has poor attitude. The restaurant does not have proper ventilation.
It's a very quaint place, very cozy and it looks like they provide a decent service and good food. Well here is the down-lo. . . In the waitstaff department, that is a check, we had a very patient and welcoming waiter. In the speed department, not quite, our food came a tad bit too slow, by toddler was already screaming for food and it still has not arrived, but then again I wonder if its because one of us ordered the swordfish (as the waiter had explained that is the one that took the most time to cook). Food department, they live up to their schnitzel. . .it was very good, this is a schnitzel place not steak so if the say they have this available. . .stay away, just a side note, stay with the schnitzel. . .again it was very good. The desert is awesome too, you can customize your desert to a certain extent, really, really, yummy. In the ambiance department, it is a little bit dated, the over all look of the place seemed a little tired, not a biggie, but if you are looking for some sort of a romantic place to impress, probably not the place. . .again stick with the schnitzel, very yummy. To that person who said that the plates, spoons and forks to be a little bit dirty. . .you are kind of right. . .I believe they are not really dirty though, they just look really, really old, therefore you'll see scratch marks and cook marks on it. . .but again no biggie if you are not expecting impressive fine dining. IN short, total experience not totally disappointing but not totally impressed either. . .will probably be back. . .for the schnitzel
Number one restaurant in all of Unionville. I come here all the time. Staff are friendly and nice, they treated me as if I was part the team, Food is excellent. You can't go wrong with the Beer. The waiter showed me how Veal was made. The only dissapointment i ever had was when i applied to work for them, manager promised that he will review my application and when i came back and asked him, it turned out that he already hired a bunch of other people, that was a big downer for me. But everything else about the restaurant, is good.
It is one of my favorite places. First time was with family last winter and wee all was surprise to find well done glue wine nicely served in pottery. We came back in summer time to celebrate ouer13nth anniversary. Beautiful flowers in patio and friendly atmosphere. Third time we visit It in fall season, when outside was miserable, but here like at home. This place is not for burger lover, but for those who like European food. Just here I could find my favorite baked Camembert and “leberknodelsuppe”. Thanks to owners for keep in traditions.
We were drawn to the restaurant because of the entertainment that evening. I called for reservations and we were placed in a spot appropriate for my description of our needs - in the room for the entertainment, but not on top of the band. Food was good, white wine chilled appropriately. I was secretly relieved and pleasantly pleased after reading some of these reviews. It had been about 5 years since my last meal there.
We come here from time to time because we typically enjoy the schnitzel and spaetzle. This restaurant continues to go down hill everytime we visit, and we have been going there for over 15 years! The service has always been adequate and OK. The decor and the rest of the menu are at best OK, but you can always rely on the schnitzel and the spaetzle to be good.
The restaurant wasn't that busy. Now I know why.The food is terrible.I was expecting much more. The schnitzel was dry and fatty. The salads were plain and simple. The white wine wasn't cold as it should have been served. My husband and I were very disappointed.
My husband and I come here from time to time because we always enjoy the schnitzel and the homemade noodles. The apple strudel is very tasty also. The service has always been adequate and reasonably friendly. The decor and the rest of the menu (esp. the salads) are uninspiring but you can always rely on the schnitzel and the spaetzle to satisfy.
Visited this restaurant in November '07 and then again January '08. The food was just as good and the servers again made us feel like family. We will keep going back.
Our New Year's Eve dinner was fabulous. The main course of Wiener Schnitzel, home fries and broccoli with white sauce were all cooked to perfection. The warm homemade apple strudel topped off the meal. The decor was festive and welcoming, The service was excellent. A wonderful dining experience to bring in 2008.
