Real food with Gluten-free options. The atmosphere is nice in that you can dress up or where jeans and there is a pretty outdoor patio. I wouldn't mind a little more variety but always have a good meal and again, can get gluten free. It's nice to have food that is made on site and not something from a chain.
We love Sole. The food, service, atmosphere and overall experience are always great here. It's definitely our go-to place in Waterloo, whether an evening of fine dining, drinks and dessert, or lunch on the patio in the summer. We've never been disappointed at Sole.
I just love this place. The food is superb and the staff well-trained and attentive without being interfering (We are a male couple and I HATE it when we are referred to as "guys". the staff always greets us as "gentlemen." - NICE!) The owner is VERY handsome (which makes dinner all that more enjoyable). Variety of food is great and specials are always good. I'm especially fond of the Calamari to start and the Pork Schnitzel for the main. Dessert always varies. With wine the bill adds up, but it's a great "go to" for birthdays, etc... or when you just want to treat yourself!
This restaurant definitely has top notch quality of both food and service! I have been to Sole for both brunch and dinner. They were both good but if i were to only choose one, i would definitely go there for brunch! It was all worth it. Brunch: 1) Baked Crepe and 2) Eggs Benedict are AMAZING. Dinner: I ordered the Seared Sea Scallops as my appetizer, Roasted Chicken Breast as my main and creme brule for dessert. They are all fairly decent. I love this restaurant. You definitely eat what you pay for! The servers at Sole are very kind and polite. They are efficient and reliable. I love all the smiles on their faces, so warm! They were also kind enough to help us take a couple pictures for memories.
I had a great experience her as well as the 8 people that joined me. Snitzel is amazing great breakfast place too
Sole used toe be one of our favorite restaurants in Waterloo unfortunately it isn't anymore, not sure if they have a new chef or what is it. the food was boring, not what we were use to, I hope they can improve cause it was a great place.
This is a 'special occasion' place for us and never disappoints. Fantastic food and service always, excellent venue and they will prepare you special dishes such as bruchetta from scratch when it is not even on the menu. Took a birthday cake there and they cut it up and served it on dressed plates with sauce and chocolate slices. Perfect !
I used to love Sole! I remember it being wonderful food and I don't know if I've changed or if the cook/management has but the last two times I have been back this year were a huge disappointment. The food was average and for the price there are better restaurants in the area than this. The atmosphere is wonderful and the drink menu is great, but the food just doesn't measure up. Too bad.
I went to Sole for the live Jazz music, but left remembering the food. My companion had the pork tenderloin with poached pear and said it was one of the best dishes they have ever had. I had the lobster clubhouse which was good. Our waitress suggested a flatbread appetizer, and it was a delicious combination of flavours with marscapone, pear, and candied walnuts. I was a bit hesitant to try a sweet appitizer but it was very good! For a saturday night it was not very busy with only 6 couples and 1 group, which made for a nice romantic dinner. The live jazz was also very enjoyable and entertaining.
A group of us are in town on business from the USA. I took the recommendations from this website to try Sole. What a wonderful place. I loved the atmosphere, and am just sad that I won't be here for the live Jazz - can imagine how great that will be. Great Location, good wine selection (love the choices in the 1/2 bottles!), and the food was awesome! If / when I come back to Waterloo - Sole is definitely on my agenda!
Was there on Thursday for a friends birthday. The entire evening was fantastic from the time we dropped our coats to the time we left. Our server was friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. From apps to main course, dessert and coffee the entire food service had a great flow. No rushing and we were able to celebrate a birthday in great atmosphere and company. The meal was amazing, all food was served hot and everything was perfect. Each dish was well presented and extremely delicious. The martini list is very inventive. We all shared a bottle of wine over dinner and it made the night that much better. Well done Sole.
Great Wine List! One of the finer dining experiences my wife and I have had in a while. The wine list is awesome and I now have 2 new favourites I need to get at the LCBO whenever I go :) I did find the food portions a little small, but the quality more than made up for it. The peanut butter creme brulee.... OMG - Better than I make... We had a newer server, so we needed to wait for drinks and refills, but it was nice to bask in the atmosphere of the restaurant. We will be going back for a fancier night out on the town.
Sat in the bar area. Great service, attentive and not rushed. There was a jazz trio playing which was great, added to the evening. Overall very pleased with the food and service!
From start to finish, a disappointing meal. Caesar salad lacked dressing, flavour was in the croutons only, spinach salad was blah - very little dressing (tasteless); escargots were delicious; lamb ordered rare-not expecting it 'that rare' ! Paella description said it contained sausage (paella typically does) -there was no evidence of sausage; mussels at edge of plate were cold; schnitzel was very dry. Lasagna was adequate, but not impressive. Service was very slow, even though not overly busy throughout the place. Having been a 'fan' of The Blackshop for many years, this was an unexpected disappointment. We shall not return.
I go quite often for drinks after work. The drinks are fine. The food is always quite good. The service is excellent. The decor is nice. My only complaint is that this place is quite expensive. There are other places in town that are comparable for less money.
This was my first time eating at Sole, and I was not disappointed. Everything was superb, and the portions were large enough to be satisfying. I never thought I would order a sandwich for dinner in a nice restaurant, but it was exceptional. Service was a touch slow, especially waiting to pay, but we weren't in a rush. The server was pleasant and professional. More expensive than my average meal out, but great for an occasional treat.
After reading some of the reviews on the website, I was expecting a decent meal. I had to send my entre back because it was luke warm. No water was offered....I asked for water with lemon and got it, but no one else at our table was received it, so they had to ask later....then it arrived without the lemon as requested. We received four little pieces of bread, with dipping oil. The wooden chairs are as hard as a rock....I had to stand up near the end of the meal to get the kinks out .
At first everything was fine. The waiter seemed ok at first, but very busy. We started with drinks, which we ordered, but my son-in-law didn't receive the beer he ordered. He finally got it about half way through his supper. The steak i ordered first came to me almost alive. I ordered medium, but this is way to rare for me. They took it to the chef and had him cook it some more, which was better, but by that time i was off my desire to eat. i know i gave a great review earlier this year, but unfortunately this is the last time i will go here again. I think a place that charges the prices that they charge that everything should be top notch. they didn't charge me for the steak, but by that time the damage had been done. Sorry! But i will go back again.
The food was divine, the outdoor patio on a sunny day was just heavenly and our server was prompt, professional and coureous. The meals were perfectly prepared and our desserts were simply out of this world. Highly recommended! The only negative comment I could make would be that the olive oil dip for the bread did not taste very good. Otherwise, fantasitic. We'll be back.
Food: The Chicken Briquettes were fantastic. I don't really like coconut, but I loved this one. It was superb. However, I really needed about double the mango salsa they gave me. It really wasn't enough. Nonetheless excellent. The sweet potato lasagnia surprised me. I'm a huge meat-eater and I rarely order vegetarian dishes. I took a risk and was pleasantly surprised. The dish was very interesting with a variety of cheeses and mushrooms. They replaced the pasta with sweet potato. Unfortunately, it was very "same" throughout. By the time I got half way, the novelty had warn off, and I was just tired of it. They should have put a side dish, a salad, anything... to give a bit of variety. Service: Our waitress seemed like it was her first day or something. She didn't know the specials and read them off her notebook. She was very very shy. You had to pry information out of her. She spoke very very softly. I'm sure she is not the standard. Other: The place was very nice. The average age was about 20-30 years older than we were. But not a problem. The jazz music was lovely. I really enjoyed it.
