On Brock Street in Whitby, just a couple of kilometres north of the historic Four Corners, is a large restaurant whose potential lay untapped until restaurateurs Chris and Russ bought it in 2009. They opened The Brock House, a “Muskoka cottage meets Whistler chalet,” and have been serving the people of Whitby good food ever since.
At The Brock House, the menu features such tasty items as shrimp and lobster pot pie, sweet potato gnocchi, pizza (gluten-free dough available) and lamb shank - all served in an inviting environment with exposed brick walls and that cozy chalet feel.

Fantastic restaurant! Love the food and atmosphere! The staff is friendly and extremely accommodating! Sunday brunch, Women and Wine, Friday “appy hour” and the outdoor patio have made me a repeat customer! Definitely one of my favourite places to dine!
We love eating at the Brock House as a family and for date nights! The food is always incredible and the staff is amazing! There is something for everyone and we have never been disappointed! We ate there last night and we can’t wait to return again very soon!
I've been to the Brock House numerous times and it never disappoints. Whether its for lunch, drinks or dinner, the atmosphere here can't be found in any other place in the GTA. Their entire menu has never let me down, but the prime rib is to die for and the service is has always been top notch. I've recently booked a Christmas get together with friends and requested high top tables around the bar area for the best atmosphere. I always look forward to an evening out at this restaurant.
This place had mostly great reviews and is always busy when we drive by...so to celebrate the holidays, we decided to check it out. Sadly, it wasn't the best experience. To start with the positive, the atmosphere is nice - busy, social place - not the kind of place you'd go for a quiet night out. I found the menu quite extensive and had a broad range of food to choose from. That being said, it was a tad challenging for my friend, who is lactose intolerant and struggled to find a pasta that didn't involve a cream-based ingredient. The waitress was pleasant, but was not always available. We had to wait quite awhile for our meals...we met at the restaurant at 6:45pm and our bill wasn't paid until about 8:50pm. This wasn't a huge deal because we weren't in a hurry - but we were hungry! Our orders were not processed correctly (ordered a side of fries and a side cesar salad - we got kettle chips and a garden salad). The issue was corrected after it was brought to the servers attention. The food was just okay. The lamb burger was greasey and it was a bit odd that it was between rye bread as opposed to a bun, but it tasted good. The club my husband had tasted okay, but we felt the portion size was quite small for the price. My friends' meals looked good. They stated that they enjoyed it, but were not wowed by it. The other concern that was raised was their adaptability/accomodations. My friend is lactose intolerant and she asked the server about modifications on two dishes and she was told it was not possible because it's already made (one dish she asked was the side potato - if you want mashed potatoes, they have only "cheddar mashed"...and they could not make it without the cheddar cheese). This says to us that it's not likely made fresh to order... Overall, the place looks like a great place if you're heading for a social night of drinks. For food and service, not so much. The food is just adequate, the service was nothing spectacular and we're not sure how much of the food is fresh to order ... and at their price point, they really should be serving fresh to order food. Although I wanted to like this place, I will likely not be returning....
We went for a Birthday celebration (this always seems to be a place we go to celebrate something), and were, again, only moderately satisfied with the experience. The menu is only ok, and it seems like they are trying to be the Keg, but missing the mark. I had the baseball steak, and while the cut of the meat was great, and cooked to perfection, the chef smothered it in some bbq-au jus concoction. It did not state on the menu about any sauce, and the meat did not need it! It's always ok when we go here, but we always leaving feeling like we paid a lot, and were never completely satisfied.
My family took me here for my birthday and I was impressed. Food wasn't overly fancy but it's a notch above simple pub fair. We enjoyed the appetizers and my meal seemed very fresh. It's family friendly! I brought my kids and noticed other families being treated well. Next time I get a sitter, I'm heading to the Brock House.
We like the casual rustic feel, that has a little bit of fine dining-esque vibe, not sure what exactly. Definitely not the paper napkins! Please, please The Brock House, splurge for laundry service - your prices already say you do..... Service was friendly, but very slow with a disappearing waitress. Where does she go? We were nevertheless served before the table beside us, who were already seated with folded menus. Yikes. Food was not bad. The coconut shrimp were thickly covered with crisp coconut - excellent. But the sesame chili dipping sauce was neither sesame nor chili - it was honey. Warm, pure honey. Not really the bath what I wanted or expected for these crisp shrimp, The caesar salad dressing was flavourful, but not well mixed on the salad - it was in disappointing clumps with naked lettuce everywhere. And it was huge- large enough for two as an appetizer. The pizza was fine - was fun watching it being made - the view from our table. The beef was very tender. The pasta was good, creamy and well flavoured. Desserts were great - something chocolate and something caramel-y - very good! We'll probably avoid this place on a Saturday night, given the shaky service, but the ambience and the menu are worth a return.
Brock House is a fabulous restaurant!! I would absolutely recommend the Brock House for any special occation or just a regular night out! I had a work function there last week, we had about 30+ people attend, the staff was exceptional, and the food was absolutely delicious. They made the experience worth while! Everyone in my department loved there meal which was so refreshing to hear. I have had many experiences with restaurants where its hard to book for larger parties; I felt the Brock House was extremely accommidating! They put us in a beautiful private room where it was nice and intimate for our function. Not only was the staff extremely friendly and efficient but our food came in great time; even being with a larger party. Overall, I am very very happy with my experience and would like to thank the exceptional staff and chef at the Brock House for making it memorable. This will be one of my top picks in Durham Region!! Thankyou.
My boyfriend and I visit the Brock House on a regular basis. We love sitting at the bar. The decor and ambiance is so warm and inviting. We enjoy speaking with our servers who are always friendly and have a warm smile. It's nice when we walk in the hosts or servers greet us with smile or a hello. I think we've eaten everything on the menu by this point and haven't been disappointed yet. The thing we love most about the restaurant is how they're always trying new things. From the changing tapas menu to the women and wine event which is amazing. I've been a couple times and it's such a wonderful night out with the girls. We also did the Oktoberfest night which was such a blast to do with all our friends. Only "complaint" from my boyfriend is there's not enough "night out's| for the guys. We'd love to see more of those! The price is right for tons of food and drink. We are regulars at Hot Rocks and Shrimp Cocktail and knew when Brock House opened it wouldn't disappoint. Keep up the great work, you have yet to let us down!!
My wife and I have eaten at the Brock house at least 10 times . I like the menu and atmosphere is very inviting . The staff are very professional and you are always greeted with a warm smile . The size of portion is very substantial , if you are hungrey this is the place to eat. That said they do offer value meals which are of the same food preparation quailty while smaller in size ..Keep up the good work ...See you soon
Last Thursday, I had the pleasure of dining at The Brock House for their Tapas Thursday! The food was outstanding! It's so nice to see a restaurant in Durham Region trying something new. I really loved that I could try a few different appetizers. Definitely check out the Brock House. Great food, great atomsphere! You won't be disappointed.
|We have been to this restaurant 6 times, everytime we were hoping it would get better, well tonight we had the worst meal ever, club sandwich no taste what so ever, my husband ordered the hamburger one word awful, he said it was so dry and again absolutely no taste. Interior of this restaurant is really nice great ambiance, however it stops there. We love Hot Rocks and expected the same qualty of food not a chance, we were so dissapointed. Hopefully the owners will read these reviews and inprove food and service.
Had the coconut shrimp for starters, then the 8 & 10 oz prime roast beef with baked potato & veggies, with a half litre of red Merlot wine. Chocolate cake & creme brule & coffees for dessert. A perfect evening! :)
I will take my family to the keg from now on. The attempt at tapas here is poor yet not as bad as the service. Not even worth the price.
Group consisted of 2 elderly and 2 near elderly patrons. Went for supper at 5 pm. and was greeted by a guy in a wrinkled shirt hanging out of his pants. The servers are dressed better than the Host! Escorted past the nice tables with white linen table cloths and was seated near the kitchen and bar. Very noisy area. The soup was good. The remaining dishes were fair. My wife had previously been to this restaurant for brunch with a group of friends. This restaurant appears to be trying to be upscale but fails. It is not much better than a chain roadhouse type restaurant. When paying the bill by credit card the tip is automatically set at 18%; very nervy. I can't see it succeeding.
I really like the atmosphere and enjoy the food especially the Pickeral! This time we had appetizers & drinks, Italiano Pizza was great! Weird having corn in the casesar salad but it was good! I've been a few times and have usually experienced really good service; however on my last visit my server seemed more concerned with finishing her shift and having beers with her husband and kid. Our table was directly across from the bar where she was drinking, how unprofessional! She never asked us if we wanted another drink, (which we would have) never asked about dessert or coffee either! Just put the bill down and shortly after bellied up to the bar with her family!!. Perhaps she's the manager or owner as she poured her drinks, Either way, manager, server it looked bad.
I think the owners should regroup and figure out what they are doing. # 1 the food lacked taste and seemed like it was just heated up - definitely nothing exciting here. If I were to base it on the food only I can't imagine going back. While the restaurant does have some atmosphere it lacks warmth and needs to be brightened up. One should be wowed when you walk in... no WOW here.
Can't say enough good things about this place! I have been here a few times and every time is as good as the next! The staff not only gives great service but are all happy to do it! The food (and my personal fav Pulled Pork Nachos) are what will keep me coming back! Prices are definitely reasonable for the quality you receive! From the amazing service to the amazing food I always leave happy! Long story short, if you haven' t been GO! It's the complete package!
Had a great meal at the Brock House for a birthday dinner. Made a reservation that day and requested a nice table for 6 people. We arrived and restaurant was busy, table was in an excellent location in restaurant. Ordered drinks and dinner. Excellent portion sizes! The guys ordered fish and chips and even had left overs! Great value on the kids meal including a wide selection and included a drink and dessert. Overall the meal was great and the service was quick! Will definately go back to the Brock House again!
My wife and i, along with friends have been to the brock house at least 5 times . On each occasion the staff and service have been excellent and the food was great.. And yes i would go back again.
