1. Orange-banana breakfast smoothie

Preparation time: 5 minutes

Serves 1

  • 175 ml (3⁄4 c) orange juice
  • 125 ml (1⁄2 c) sliced banana
  • 10 ml (2 tsp) brown sugar
  • 0.5 ml (1⁄8 tsp) almond extract
  • 2 ice cubes
  • 1 mint sprig1. In blender, combine orange juice, banana, sugar and almond extract.
    2. Add ice cubes and blend until thick and smooth.
    3. Garnish with mint sprig.

    Calories: 190, fat: 0 g, saturated fat: 0 g, sodium: 0 mg, carbohydrate: 46 g, protein: 2 g.

2. Strawberry-yogurt smoothie

Preparation time: 5 minutes

Serves 4

  • 500 g (1 lb) ripe strawberries, hulled
  • Grated zest and juice of 1 large orange
  • 150 ml (2⁄3 c) plain low-fat yogourt
  • 15 ml (1 tbsp) sugar, or to taste (optional)
  • 4 small strawberries (optional)
  • 4 small orange slices (optional)1. Put strawberries into food processor or blender. Add zest, juice and yogurt. Purée, scraping down sides of container once or twice. Taste mixture and sweeten with sugar, if necessary.
    2. Pour into glasses. If you like, decorate with small strawberries and slices of orange, both split so they sit on the rim of the glass.
