Nazil Kara was fortunate enough to discover her aptitude for henna art at a very early age. “I have been fascinated with henna since my teens,” she says, “but when I immigrated to Canada, there wasn’t that much henna presence until around the mid-90s.” Nazil spent her formative years in her Kenyan home drawing and developing her own artistic talents. Back then, it seemed like a fun way to pass the time and she never dreamed she could one day make a business of it.
“I was busy with my university education,” she says, “so I wasn’t able to focus on my henna art until the end of the ’90s when a co-worker asked me to do a birthday party. From there it evolved from a hobby into a business.” Those were the earliest days of HennaVancouver. Nazil has since solidified the professional aspects of her business by creating a website and getting the word out about her henna services.
