I love this place because for birthdays and family gathering. Food is OK (not the best), service is the same.
Service was slow so we left a small tip and on the way out the door the manager stopped us to confront us about the small tip. They had stopped filling our water and taking our orders so we didn't feel as though they were at their best. Won't go back!
168 is by no means a 5 star dining experience. However, for the price you pay for an all you can eat Japanese buffet the value is great. Their food is always fresh and the service is quick. I personally do not eat any of the fish but my boyfriend loves it and says it's all great quality. Their fried foods always come out hot & steaming and their rolls are delicious. They have some of the best sushi pizza out there! If you're looking for a great place to try new things and stuff yourself until you burst with delicious food, this is the place for you.
I came here many years ago when it first opened and the quality was exceptional. They went the extra mile to make their dishes really nice. I was surprised. I come back years later and UGH, worst meal I have ever had. First off, the smell of bleach is so strong throughout the eating area that it's disgusting. They cut corners everywhere. First off, my brother and my dad can eat quite a lot. We ordered according to what they could eat and they didn't give us everything that we ordered. It was obvious that they did not forgot. They plainly decided to give us only a bit of everything that we wanted. We ordered 9 kalbi short ribs (3 orders) and they decided to only give us 3. We also ordered 2 spider rolls and they gave us 1. I was really annoyed with the roll sizes. It's nearly 3x the size of regular sushi. They increase the amount of rice in sushi and rolls. When we asked for several rolls which contained a more expensive ingredient, they were filled with 98% cucumber and a tiny sliver of that ingredient. Everything was twice the size of what was appropriate. Go to a real sushi place and see how much they put in their maki rolls. Even Kitchener Waterloo AYCE gets the size right. Not only that, but the tea was so watery, we could not taste anything. Terrible sushi. AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE. Go elsewhere, this place is not worth your money.
The food was almost universally lukewarm. The items themselves were edible, but not particularly tasty. I was not overly impressed. The service was lacklustre. The decor was uninspired. For the money that you pay, there are plenty of better all you can eat in the general area.
Disappointment! The sushi was warm and the hot foods were lukewarm. We had to send the dumplings back to the kitchen because they were cold. Not even lukewarm but cold! Will not return. There are many AYCE places around with much better food!!
After a year of not coming here, I decided to give it another shot! (I stopped coming because the freshness was going downhill + I wasn't impressed by the questionable reviews on here.) And I didn't have any regrets about my most recent visit. AYCE lunch is $14.95 and when I received the bill, I was pleasantly surprised by a 5% discount - not sure if that was for the Christmas season OR because we paid in cash. The waitress should have explained, but again, no complaints! There is a lot of variety, including dim sum now. However, I refrained from ordering that because I'm thinking that it's of the freezer variety. In addition, there is a fairly big difference between the lunch vs. Deluxe Menu, so that may prompt you to spend the extra money if you want...more. Everything tasted fresh and was decently presented. The handrolls were especially good! Desserts are now printed on the place mat so there's no additional waste for an order of ice cream. I appreciated this detail because I am concerned about the environment. Overall, 168 has bounced back up in terms of quality. It does take the artistry out of sushi, but it satisfies a hankering with its variety!
Very good sushi and sashimi! All you can eat!
I've visited this restaurant for 5-6 times now, and I've decided to write a review today. This restaurant is definitely one of the best Japanese AYCE in Mississauga. But before you get your expectations too high, bear in mind that it is the best of its kind in Mississauga, so it is AT BEST bordering 'mediocre' and 'good'. Food wise, like all Japanese AYCEs I've had in Mississauga, the sashimi is frozen or of a lower quality, so it can be rather tasteless. While their salmon and white tuna seems to be more flavorful, but it is probably due to the added aroma from the higher fat content in these kinds of fishes. The subtle and delectable kick that comes with fresh and high quality fish is missing. Having said that, the texture and flavor of the fish is decent for frozen fish, so maki rolls that focuses less on the subtle flavors of fresh fish (such as the spicy salmon maki with crisp, and the spider roll) tastes good. The hot foods are decent, and 168 bolsters an extensive selection of hot foods. However, to be more critical, the grilled vegetables are often too oily, and the bulgolgi is sub-standard. The batter for the tempura is also too thick. Of the 6 times I've been there, I'm usually satisfied with the food. There was one time when they served left-over calamari tempura (they re-fried the calamari tempura, making it dry and tough). The service here is friendly and quick, and unlike most AYCE restaurants, they have a stack of ordering forms on the table, so it is very easy for you to order second or third rounds!! The seating is comfortable (especially if you get the couch seats next to the windows), and the dining area is clean. Of all the AYCE japanese restaurants, this is the only one I've been back for. Arrive a little bit before 6pm if you don't want to wait for seats!! It can be ridiculously crowded later on!
We have visited this place for the lunch and dinner buffet for about a year. Previous visits were good, until now. Nearing the end of our dinner, there was an insect crawling around the window by our table. We told the server about it, and he promptly removed it. It was a cockroach! Upon leaving, the hostess at the front apologized to us, stating they are working on their 'cockroach problem, and they spray everyday.' They offered no discounts, nothing. That is the last time I will eat there. Disgusting.
I just came back from lunch at the restaurant and tried out the new items on their Delux Buffet. ($22.95 all day) It was wonderful. The new additions to the menu improve an already fine dining experience. I am not a big fan of uncooked food, but I loved the tuna sushi. With such an extensive menu, not everything will be to everyone's taste, but for me, the over all experience was great.
The food was decent. Not the quality you get at an a la carte restaurant obviously. One person at our table did not want the buffet. I know its a rule that the whole table order buffet or all order a la carte, but management came over to our table and was RUDE. He would not serve the one person in our party that wanted a small portion of food. He could have dealt with us in a civilized manner but no - they would rather have no money and an unhappy customer rather then making a simple hassle free exception? Oh and btw, the chicken curry tasted horrible.
This Place Needs More Unfavorable Reviews. Enough! Stop with the very positive reviews so we can get in to what has become our favorite Mississauga restaurant without frequently having to wait for a table. On the weekends this restaurant can be extremely busy as it has become a very popular spot for large mid-day birthday parties. And no wonder with its cheerful servers, quickly filled orders and superior food quality, the $14.95 lunch price is an outstanding value. Please stay away.
Very good place to go for sushi, I was impressed with the portions of fish, they didn't just fill it with rice with a tiny piece of fish. They quality was excellent, and would definitely recommend this place to anyone!
I am a regular at their Brampton location and usually go to the Mississauga location about once a month. In my opinion, the food is just as good as the Brampton location and the decor in Mississauga is better. I am impressed that the staff in Mississauga know my preferences as well as the staff in Brampton. Kevin and Ivan have trained their people very well. I am sure that the third location, opening in Milton in December, will be up to the fine standards of the first two restaurants.
I was introduced to this restaurant by my friend. It is recently I was introduced to sushi and maki rolls. I have tried a restaurant before this, also an all you can eat sushi buffet, but I was not pleased with the service, the place was not clean and the all the food we ordered came at once. This place was nothing like it, the waitresses were pleasant, the place was clean and comfy and the food was great. I went with my friends and we were seated in a booth near the window, which I really liked. We ordered different items from the all you can eat menu and I loved their dynamite rolls, and their sushi is really good. I also loved their spicy salmon crisp maki and BBQ eel in a maki or and sushi. When it came to desserts, I really loved their red bean ice cream, it is delicious. Also the ginger ice cream is good too, it is very flavourful. I intend to go there again. I have already done take out because I love their food, but I also want to do a sit-down lunch or dinner because the atmosphere is good. I understand it was open just recently, but I really hope they maintain this atmosphere of cleanliness, friendly service and fresh sushi.
Indeed nice to have a decent AYCE Japanese Restaurant in the west. Now I don't have to drive to Markham/Richmond Hill area. We went there for dinner on Saturday and was seated immediately (very lucky). Those folks who came after us started to wait in line. And there were always people waiting in line even at the end of our dinner service. So I would suggest making reservations if possible. Excellent selection of sushi, sashimi, and rolls. They do prepare most items fresh as you can tell by the warmth of the fried tempura and the crispness of the sushi seaweed. Try their spicy rolls (tuna / salmon). I also liked the different hand rolls. I am impressed with the quality and freshness of the sashimi. Japanese buffets tend to be cheap with these. This restaurant cut you real big slices of salmon and white tuna. The sashimi/sushi platters are also arranged beautifully. It shows their attention to details and service even though they are very very busy. This made a positive impression because compared to other equally busy Japanese Buffets, this restaurant gave you the attention and friendly service that you deserve. Further about the service, I know the young manager was always there to greet customers as they come in. His wait staff was always quick to refill your drink, take your order forms, and clear away empty plates. The restaurant can be noisy as it was a full house. But you can talk easily with your party... so the setting is excellent for dinner with friends and family. I consider this restaurant one of the best Japanese Buffet I have had in the GTA. I will definitely visit again.
Usually I eat at the Brampton location but recently tried this new location in Mississauga. The food wasn't quite as good as the Brampton location, the rice was a bit overdone. I was also disappointed that the signature "Mississauga Roll" is the exact same as the "Brampton Roll", I thought it woulda been nice if they'd created a new signature menu item. It is a nice new modern look and feel inside but the tables are packed a bit too tightly for my taste. Overall a good experience but not as good as the Brampton location.
First, the name of this restaurant is a bit confusing. The road sign says 168 (address of other location in Brampton), but the one on the actual restaurant says "JAPAN BUFFET". So I hope I have it right! I noticed this restaurant while driving by. Thought that since it just opened, it was a good opportunity to try it out! The food was pretty good, fresh. Supposedly, they are made-to-order and not just done in bulk, in advance. Lots of choices, including sushi, sashimi (dinner-only), hand rolls, teriyaki, noodle/fried rice, dessert, & soft drinks. YES, drinks are included although they fill your stomach, so not recommended for your value. You have the option of other cocktails, alcoholic beverages, but these are extra. I found the service to be quite friendly and they seemed patient with the predominantly Caucasian AYCE-sushi virgin patrons; explaining the nitty gritty about the how-tos of ordering. Not-so-good: As with other sushi buffets, it is difficult to keep track of what you order. I believe that a coupla items never arrived, but it was soon forgotten as other food filled the space. But maybe this is a good thing? Another thing worth mentioning was that the environment is not that intimate. There are booths for couples along 1 periphery of the restaurant, but the rest is basically a long bench with tables parked in front, and chairs on the other side. So you can be sitting right next to a stranger. It was quite busy on a Friday night, so again, not ideal for a candlelit dinner. I found the table for 2 too small for the serving plates. Although they look nice, they're much too big for what they actually carry. A coupla times, I had to amalgamate pieces just to get rid of the plates. The servers did help though as plates were picked up and tea was refilled on a regular basis. In comparison to other AYCE sushi buffets, 168 differs by including drinks & having a set lunch/dinner price for every day of the week - no difference for weekend. I suggest trying this restaurant out while it is still new to ensure the good service continue!
