“Cadeauté is really all about inspiring people to live a colourful, rich life through design, with unique objects that are equal parts form and function.” This is Barbara Lima’s mission statement for her artistically inclined industrial design practice. A native of Brazil, she blends visual arts and design to create furniture, images, textiles and other decorative objects, which are all imbued with her unique style.
“I am a multidisciplinary designer; I cull from various media to create my work,” says Barbara. “My first product line was made from paper collages, and then I veered toward furniture. I pick pieces of furniture that speak to me and inspire me, and I deconstruct them, then incorporate patterns and other materials to transform them into a new contemporary, inspiring piece. Besides that, I create my own unique patterns, which I apply to my own varied creations; I do pottery and textiles.”
Barbara finds inspiration in mathematics, geometric forms and natural materials, from which she creates Cadeauté’s collections. “I am the only person who creates the objects I sell," she explains, "and I work with a Montreal-based manufacturer for bigger projects.”
