Radical, outrageous, remarkable, but most of all, authentic: that’s the attitude Jessi Preston and Sara-Isobel Mulder have developed since they opened Two Horses in 2012. Jessi was a tattoo artist making a name for herself in Montreal’s hip artistic community. Sara was a stylist performing her own artistic flair with hair. “It was clear that I was tattooing interesting artist types and she was doing hair for the same people,” says Jessi. “So we naturally thought that if we paired our talents, there would be a crossover.”
The idea of putting tattooing and hairdressing under one roof may be unique, but unique is what Two Horses strives to be. Both professions deal with beauty and confidence. Your hair and your body art are how you express yourself to the world. “The trades are similar,” explains Jessi. “When someone comes in, they want to be beautified, or they want to make a change, sometimes even a dramatic life change. They get tattoos or hairstyles to symbolize those moments.”
