Great lunch spots in Summerhill

Toronto's Summerhill neighbourhood was named after Canadian transportation baron, Charles Thompson’s home. Ever since the North Toronto Railway Station was built on his Yonge Street property in the 1880s, and the construction of the Summerhill Subway Station, local shops and restaurants in the area have been thriving. Here are a few of our favourite spots to have lunch in this charming midtown neighbourhood.

Caffe Doria

1
1094 Yonge St, Toronto, ON M4W 2L6

Open for both lunch and dinner, this cozy cafe is a popular Summerhill landmark that attracts Yonge Street shoppers with its gourmet espresso, rustic Italian fare and unpretentious vibe. Neighbourhood locals stop by frequently to enjoy a glass of vino and snack on salads, paninis and artisanal pizzas. The namesake pizza Doria is a thin-crust pie topped with grilled chicken, roasted red peppers and black olives. During the summer months, the picturesque side patio is an ideal spot for al fresco dining.

Black Camel

2
4 Crescent Rd, Toronto, ON M4W 1S9

The goals at this casual take out cafe are simple: prepare good tasting, high quality food, deliver it quickly and price it fairly. Design your own sandwich with your choice of base ingredient (pulled pork is a neighbourhood fave) and in-house prepared sauces and toppings. Always fresh, hot and delicious, the fillings are plentiful and the food arrives quickly. There is limited seating inside, but count on the patio for summertime dining.

Joso's

3
202 Davenport Rd, Toronto, ON M5R 1J2

The first impression here is based on the decor. Risque pictures and nautical themes adorn the walls, making for interesting conversation. The creative ambiance combined with the abundance of freshly caught seafood make this restaurant a unique dining experience. Must try: the fish soup or the fish platter, which your server will guide you through at your table.

Barnsteiner's

4
1 Balmoral Ave, Toronto, ON M4V 3B9

The essence of Old Toronto meets the warmth of an East Coast pub at this local haunt. Little lighthouses and nautical details set the stage for a seafood-centric menu. The fish and chips are light, crispy and nicely seasoned. The oysters are fresh and spiced with a huge selection of sauces.

Blooming Rose Pan-Asian Cuisine

5
895 Yonge St, Toronto, ON M4W 2H2

'Sawasdee' (sa-was-dee) is a Thai greeting word and an appropriate moniker for this welcoming restaurant. Traditional decor with a homey atmosphere draws diners throughout the day. The menu is created by a Thai chef from Lumpoon city in north Thailand. The Pad See Ew and Khao Soi are his signature dishes. There is dine-in, take-out, delivery and catering, plus great value on daily lunch specials.

Boxcar Social

6
1208 Yonge St, Toronto, ON M4T 1W1

This is not your average coffee shop. Boxcar Social strives to offer a unique tasting experience for customers; curated premium roast coffees, new-world wines, craft beers, scotches and bourbons all offer patrons superb satisfaction, discovery and fun.
