Sip on this: The best chai in Edmonton

Chai tea, that heady mix of black tea and Indian spices, accompanied by cardamom, cinnamon, ground ginger, ground cloves, black peppercorns and more, is a spicy treat for the senses. Whether you drink it with steamed milk for a tasty chai latte, or forego the caffeine, you’ll find a variety of chai drinks at these Edmonton establishments.

Remedy Cafe

1
8631 109 St NW, Edmonton, AB T6G 1E8

How do I even do Remedy Café chai lattes justice? They are basically heaven in a cup. The spicy blend includes their famous chai syrup, as well as the milk of your choice – soy, almond, one per cent or three per cent. Whether you get it iced or hot, the smooth mixture goes down easily. If you want to skip the caffeine, try their delightful Kashmiri chai latte, which is a nutty chai blend made from pistachios and perfumed with rose hips and other magical ingredients, such as unicorn tears.

Zaika Indian Bistro Bar

This amazing Indian restaurant makes their own chai tea blend in-house. Since it’s made from scratch, it can take a while to arrive at your table but once it does, you’ll find it was worth the wait. The strong black tea, mixed with Indian spices and garnished with cardamom, cinnamon, cloves and other spices, tastes delightful, and takes the edge off your spicy butter chicken. It normally comes with milk mixed in but the chef can make it without upon request. Either way, it’s delish.

Cafe Haven

2
9 Sioux Rd, Sherwood Park, AB T8A 4C7

Sherwood Park may not have a Remedy Café, but they do have the always lovely Café Haven, which serves up their version of Remedy’s chai lattes. They use the house-made chai syrup that Remedy is known for, and mix it with your choice of milk to create the perfect beverage to accompany your brunch. Get a second (or third) chai latte to go in order to keep that grin on your face all day long.

Da Capo Cio Bianca

3
104-8135 102 St NW, Edmonton, AB T6E 4A4

An Italian espresso bar may not be where you expect to find fantastic chai, but never say never – Da Capo serves up their chai lattes using the famous Remedy chai syrup, meaning you get the same great taste you would at Remedy, but in an entirely new setting.

Guru Fine Indian Cuisine

4
17021 100 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB T5S 1T9

This popular Indian restaurant serves up Guru Masala chai, a steaming hot cup of deliciousness. The spicy mixture is right in keeping with the hot cuisine, which makes perfect sense, since masala chai originates from India.

Frida Antojitos Mexicanos

5
12411 Stony Plain Rd Nw, Edmonton, AB T5N 3N3

One of the more than 200 kinds of tea this shop sells is African chai, a south African rooibos tea mixed with cardamom, cinnamon, ginger, star anise, lemon peel, cloves and peppercorns. The result is a fiery red blend that tastes wonderfully familiar and yet unique. The store also has chai mate, a blend of green yerba mate and traditional chai spices.
