A barbecue restaurant is something every family-oriented community needs. It is something Big T’s BBQ and Smokehouse owner Jean Charbonneau had in mind when he opened a new Big T’s location in Deer Run. The original location is situated on Crowchild Trail across from McMahon Stadium and a third is housed within the Calgary Farmer’s Market. “It’s a community that is in need of a family-style restaurant,” Jean says. “We’re a family restaurant. We have full table service. All of our meats are smoked in-house.”
This northwest barbecue restaurant boasts a meat-centric menu that’s a carnivore’s dream. But it’s less known that Big T’s serves one of the best chocolate pecan pies in the city. The pie is made with Wild Turkey Bourbon, a Kentucky premium straight bourbon whiskey. The pie is served up with a fist-sized portion of vanilla ice cream and a drizzle of chocolate sauce.
A visit to Big T’s BBQ and Smokehouse is a pre-game tradition for many football fans going to watch the Stampeders at McMahon Stadium. Patrons can also enjoy the restaurant’s expertly crafted pulled pork at two additional Big T’s in Deer Ridge and at the Calgary Farmers’ Market. In addition to smokehouse favourites like ribs and brisket, you can fulfill any pulled pork fantasy you have (within reason). Enjoy this tasty barbecue tradition on a slider, with mac ’n’ cheese, on a salad, on a bun or on a platter.
It ain’t turkey, but it sure is comfort food! Succulent, messy barbecue with multiple sauces and sides are the order of the day at Big T’s on Crowchild Trail Northwest opposite McMahon Stadium. Sharing is a natural impulse whatever dishes arrive at the table, though the restaurant’s two sampler platters are stacked high with a finger-lickin’ selection of everything from pulled pork and chicken to Andouille sausage and cornbread. Open the entire Thanksgiving weekend.
