“It was always my husband Tadashi’s dream to open a Japanese restaurant,” says Cathy Akaike. Emigrating together from Japan to Canada, Tadashi brought his culinary skills with him. And since 1993, the Akaike family has been proudly offering Vancouverites the authentic tastes of Japanese cuisine at Takumi Japanese Restaurant.
They ran Takumi in Burnaby for 14 years until their building was demolished. After operating for five years in West Vancouver, in 2013, the Akaike’s once again found a new home for the family-owned and operated restaurant in the heart of Point Grey.
“Our customers come from across the Lower Mainland…North Vancouver, West Vancouver, Richmond, Coquitlam…so this location is more convenient than when we were in West Vancouver,” says Cathy.
