There are a few Pokéstops and gyms over at Olympic Village Square, so the local Terra Breads is a delicious bakery to visit while playing. Head to the patio to enjoy fresh-baked bread, sweet and savoury pastries, and handfuls of scratch-made granola while you catch your enchanted creatures. Their cinnamon brioche buns are delightful, especially when paired with a cup of coffee. Traffic here is relatively quiet but focused trainers will need to be careful as there are plenty of cars, runners, cyclists and kids playing in this busy neighbourhood.
With bakery and café locations in Kitsilano, Olympic Village and Mount Pleasant, it won’t be hard to taste test the two hot cocoa features on the menu at Terra Breads during the 27-day Hot Chocolate Festival. A Matcha Made in Heaven is a luscious drinking cocoa made with melted white chocolate and vanilla matcha, served with a matcha shortbread cookie on the side. Or try I Am Coconuts Over You, a mix of melted 70 percent dark chocolate, coconut, cream and toasted coconut chips, that comes with a coconut macaroon.
Those who like to snack on the go should visit Terra Breads to pick up a few packages of their house-made artisanal granola. Head baker Mary Mackay’s gourmet blend is inspired by her own family recipe and features a delightful melange of wholesome ingredients: clusters of soft organic oats are tossed with dried fruit and nuts, drizzled with honey, and then oven toasted for a golden finish. The result: a chewy-yet-crunchy granola that can be enjoyed by the fistful straight out of the bag. Terra Breads also carries a sweetly spiced apricot pistachio variation.
