Ordered seafood linguine. Seafood was very fresh but dish was tasteless. Bloody Mary was thin and tasteless as well. Service was so-so. Would not go back. Beautiful view however.
HORROR STORY AT THE ROPE LOFT IN CHESTER NS We visited the Rope Loft in Chester Nova Scotia several Monday afternoons through June, while returning to the city from our cottage. It had become a regular stop for us - not so much because of the place, but because of the view of Chester harbour. We loved to have a cold Margarita in the sunshine, on their deck. Often, we'd order 'snacky' food items, which were always good. We'd always chuckle, however, at the terrible Margaritas, and that they'd be vastly different each time. In fact, the first time we visited, the bar staff had to ask us what liquor was in a Margarita. We soldiered on, though, figuring someone would take the time, eventually, to actually learn how to make this most basic of drinks, and that the next time, they'd get it right. Anyway, this was always amusing, until last time. The Margaritas came, and they were absolutely improperly-made and vile - made with some sort of sweet lemon concoction. We politely sent them back, and ordered Coronas instead. Upon leaving, we were billed for the incorrect Margaritas we sent back and didn't drink. When asked to correct this error, the staff brusquely informed us it was "no mistake" and that the owner had ruled it should be this way. Intending to work things out in a civilized fashion, we asked to see the owner. He arrived downstairs and refused our initial smiley greeting, and immediately began swearing at us, shouting and ranting that we had "upset his staff" and that their Margaritas were made perfectly. The whole thing turned into an ugly scene, with him insisting we pay for the incorrect drinks we didn't consume, and us steadfastly maintaining this wasn't right. Ultimately, we were told instead to pay only for the Coronas and to never come back. (not that we would have anyway, at this point) We were astounded and mortified at this treatment. I wonder what would have happened had we sent back an improperly cooked steak, or bad mussels!? Yikes! We left Chester, very upset and dismayed by the whole incident. Apparently they don't understand they're in the "hospitality" industry. They managed to ruin a whole weekends' worth of relaxation, and to turn what was supposed to be a peaceful stop in scenic Chester, into a horrific memory that will likely keep us from ever returning to Chester at all. Long story short - don't order Margaritas at the Rope Loft in Chester, NS!
This was our second visit to the place. The last time the food was excellent, this time it was very disappointing. We ate in the bar level and I ordered the "wings" special. They were overcooked and the sauce was bad. The Bruschetta and chowder were mediocer, the kid's chicken fingers over cooked. The only meal that was ok was one of kids "fish and chips". I would think that a secondary cook handled the meals, but I still blame the cheif for letting the stuff out of the kitchen. I won't be in a rush to go back.
First time to visit. Solomon Grundy as a starter, Yummy! One kid had fish and chips, he loved it. The other had the meat balls and spaghetti, very little left, but then she is only six and it was a big plate. Maple Salmon was excellent, cooked perfectly, although I found it a little sweet, but I have no sweet tooth. The Scallops Marsala looked amazing and my wife would not share. The wife and kids devoured the desert leaving few crumbs behind. Will definitely visit again!
