We have yet to be disappointed in this great restaurant. They have the absolute best Caesar salad and plenty of it. Steaks are done to perfection and dont forget to top it off with a Napoleon coffee !!
Mediocre (I’m being nice with this) service, average cuts of meat cooked “okay” (ergo, not worth the money), outdated furnishings - you can have wood paneling and intimate lighting etc without being rundown like this place is, and styrofoam takeout? I haven’t seen styrofoam in ages.
great place
I had high expectations after reading the reviews and from what I was told by a friend. Definitely learned my lesson, i need to go in with no expectations in the future. I kind of thought this place was highly overrated. I was told the Calamari & Caesar Salad was the best...well, the Caesar Salad was really good but it was the worst Calamari I've ever had. It was overcooked, stringy and zero flavour. Eastside Mario's has a MUCH better Calamari. My steak was under-seasoned and overcooked, h
What a super steakhouse! One can really tell the difference when one has a quality steak not to mention fabulous baked potatoe! They guys really do know their stuff and you can even buy the Caesar salad dressing as take out for home. Luv it!!!
always good, garlic bread excellent, salad with house dressing to die for if you lke garlic, should make reservations due to the popularity Friday nights and Saturday evenings are usually busy
A Small place in a mall although the linen, table setting and wait staff are clean and elegant this restaurant needs a bit of "polishing". 1st. the chairs need reupholstering they are worn down and hard to sit on. 2. The noise level - good acoustical ceiling panels could do the trick 3. Heating - it gets hot in this place when it's packed. Food...well fine dining this is not. The food tasted good but not to fine dining standards the portion sizes are TOO BIG and the presentation is at peasant level. Their side salads alone could feed a family of 6 when my Cesar salad landed in front of me I felt like a pig's trough was placed in front me. I nearly lost my appetite just by the mere size of the portions. Btw, The Cesar salad was too cold and I bit into a few ice crystals. The steaks and fillet mignon was excellent but again the presentation could use a bit of polishing. We had good service and a lot fun in this place but with a few updates on the place and food presentation it could be more.
Our visit to Napoleons was great from the service to the food . The steaks we had were delicious. The ceasar salad was to die for. I considerd Napoleons the best in Burlington.
my wife and I dropped in because our kitchen is being renovated. we were quite hungry but it was only 7.30 pm. we ordered med rare filet mignon(me) and chicken and caesar salads. Salads were enormous, almost silly sized. my wifes meal arrived and was enjoyed. my steak was overcooked, which I noticed immediately by cutting the side. the server did not come to check on our meals, I decided to locate him and let him know. At our table he requested that I cut the MIDDLE of the filet, he said "it is overcooked" Now as anyone who cooks knows, cutting the middle of the filet creates heat/moisture loss. he took it away to prepare another. we waited 30 minutes, my wife finished her meal, and offered me some which I declined because I wanted my steak. finally after no more info from the staff,I went looking for them again. I told them I didn't want it. we were done. he said " why are you talking to me like this, it is here now" he was hostile because I would not accept it. When couples go to a restaurant they expect to dine together at the same time. anything else is unaccepable. STAY AWAY
We used to go to Napoleon's at least a few times each year. The food was always perfect (and lots of it), the staff attentive (but not in your face about it) but like others do agree the decor is a little dated. More than a year ago, we noticed a gentleman came in and carried out a large box of food...who knew an upscale restaurant like this would do takeout!? We (and this is no slight on the staff or the place in general) haven't been back to eat-in since. Last night we put in a take-out order yet again and this time I'm taking the opportunity to write a review. If you're as home-bodied as my wife and myself (eating a posh meal in your track suit...just imagine!) you'll be glad to hear the meals carried out are as big and as good as those inside. They portion the food separately and as with eat-in, my wife's filet and my NY steak were prepared to perfection. The Caesar Salad is just as large and fresh as it is in-house, and if you love the Clam Chowder, little is lost taking it out. And you might say "what about the appetizers" (garlic bread, feta, olives, and pickles)? Well, they portion those up and send them with you, too (and generous portions). We usually ask that the feta and olives are left out as they're not our cup of tea but as with eat-in, you'd be far too full if you ate everything on offer. As most will know, they go through alot of left-over containers at this establishment as the portions ARE so large so I guess it was an obvious leap to realize they do a nice take-out as well. Regardless, dine-in or take-out, we've never been disappointed with this hidden gem of Burlington. We've even tried "the opposition" (Lord Nelson in Aldershot and Lord Byron in Waterdown) and while they may be prettier, the service (for eat-in), quality and quantity is far superior at Napoleons. And dollar for dollar compared to these others, Napoleons is the better deal. Just a final word of warning...we have found that the use of garlic can be a little overdone (especially in the garlic mashed potatoes). If this is a concern for you (not a huge deal for us so we've never done so), perhaps ask they tone it down. I'd be shocked to find the chef cannot accomodate your palate.
This is a smaller restaurant but it is charming. They serve a great steak and the service is quite good. If you like garlic this is another good reason to go.
First, a plate with feta cheese, olives and dill pickles - then a basket of *great* garlic bread - then a HUGE (and deelishus!) Caesar Salad - then a Steak Dianne (with a creamy mushroom sauce) with mixed vegetables and garlic mashed potatoes ... and all for a single price: $40. Mamma mia! We'll be back ... soon! P.S. I told the waiter (after I managed to finish the meal) that had I lost my appetite. He laughed and said he'd look for it :^) The lady-owner greeted us when we arrived and thanked us when we left.
I had a better experience in this restaurant in the past. Nobody was there to take our coat, the waitress were discussing without watching the room, the only side available with my Halibut was potatoes or fries ( I prefer to get some rice with the fish). the food was good, no doubt. (The chef likes using garlic) . Nice place to be with good music not too loud. I expected something more professional. For the same price you can find finer dining in downtown.
I have been to Napoleon's twice. The food is delicious. Very ample servings. We never have room for dessert and usually end up taking home leftovers. My entree, filet oscar, was $42. The steak was cooked to perfection, there was loads of crab meat and asparagus on top, the mixed vegetables were lovely, and the garlic mashed potatoes are the best I have ever tasted. The meal also included an enormous appetizer of caesar salad (served on a chilled dinner plate). There were several appetizer choices from soups to salads to pickled herring. The garlic bread that is also included is fantastic...but VERY garlicky. The only thing I have had there that I did not enjoy was the clam chowder. Not much clam flavour, very bland, and almost lumpy consistency. Too thick and gloppy. I make a better clam chowder at home. If you enjoy boozy coffees, the Napoleon's coffee is something else. It's quite a floor show just to watch them prepare it! Flaming swords and all! I can't wait to go back!
We came here for an impromptu celebration. The dining room is very tiny and as we were one of only 2 couples in the room it felt a little odd. That being said once we settled into our corner we were quite pleased. Salad was served on icy chilled plates (nice touch!) and the steak, cooked to a perfect med rare, melted in our mouths. Service was pleasant and not obtrusive. If we were to return it would be on a weekend evening so we could experience a different ambience. All in all very good.
A favorite of ours for at least 20 years! Be sure to call WELL in advance for a reservation, as they are most always booked way ahead for the weekends. The surroundings are intimate, but not intrusive. Their theme is obviously 'Napoleon', so yes, by today's design standards, it would be considered outdated, but then, so is Napoleon, no? I most always get the same thing, just because it's so good, and I don't get to go often enough to not have what I already know I love! Husband is more adventurous and tries something different all the time. We always go away happy! Service has always been impeccable for us too. Here you order an entree and it comes with an appetizer of your choice (several to choose from), and your sides (also choose your potato). The meal is so large, you wouldn't have room for another type of appetizer, or probably even dessert, altho their dessert tray looks wonderful! So basically, if your entree is $20, your bill will be only $40, (for 2 people), plus your drinks of course.. no hidden charges, other than our government's taxes, and of course, your tip. In today's world of incompetence and let-downs in restaurants, you can always count on Napoleon's!
Different ambience in that you dine in a small one room environment. Food was good and our server was personable. All-in-all, a good experience.
Food was Average at best. Over priced for what you got (ie lobster tail and small steak $50.00). The restaurant had a funny smell (like bleach). The wait staff was HORRIBLE!!! One person in our party order a steak well done it came out rare. We asked for it to be put back on the grill, It came back 10 mins later Med-rare. He then sent it back for a third time and there was no appolgy, everyone else was finished their dinner and we got "attitude" from the manager. Will not go back!!!!
great food, helpful the staff, lots of garlic, portions are large, so you can bring it home aswell
This is a very small, charming restaurant that still makes dining out a special experience. Service is attentive, yet discreet. Portions are generous, especially the fabulous ceasar salad. Wine prices are reasonable. It would be nice if there was a little more room for a larger group and an actual bar area to have a cocktail if your table isn't ready. What a refreshing change from the usual "chain type" of restaurant!
