Absolutely awful experience and would not recommend anyone going there. Two servers in the whole restaurant. Reservation was made but it still took 2 hours to get our food. People who ordered after us received their meals before us and some of them ordered what we did. Meals were brought out one at a time not all together.On top of this I paid the bill and realized after leaving I was overcharged, and charged for things that were to be included in a meal. Absolutely brutal! Will spread the word!
My husband, 2 children (2 & 3 yrs.) & I arrived for lunch. Found a table, sat & the waitress took our order promptly. 5 tables had arrived after us in a 30 min. span & were eating & we still hadn’t even received our 2 waters & 2 chocolate milks. My husband & I had enough, got up and began to prepar to leave. When the waitress asked what was wrong my husband informed her that 30 mins. for drinks was unacceptable. She said our food was ready if we’d like to have it to go! No thanks.
Waited more then 30 minutes for 2 chocolate milks and 2 cups of water. Guess if you are local they serve you better as three other tables that came in after us had no Sayed getting drinks and full meals while we sat and waited. Sad
I finally gotten around to writing my review of this place. I worked in carlton place building a new royal home about 2 1/2 years ago. Gourmet Restaurant was right beside our motel. I think it was called barons motor inn or something? Kit, the proprieter of that place was very friendly and told us about the restaurant next door when we asked him where was good to eat. He also went over for us and brought us pizzas from the place. Which were always TOP NOTCH delicious pizza fresh ingredients and dont taste like every other pizza from the big name chain shops. He also bought us a case of beer one day thats how awesome he is. He told us that when we went over there to get food, tell them that Johnny sent us. lol. The service is second to none at the restaurant. (as well as at the baron motor inn) Food arrives fast and when it arrives you are blown away by the size of the portions for the price you pay. We ate there sometimes 2 or 3 times a day for the week we stayed there building the house. It was like going to your favorite relatives house for supper. The cooks were great guys too and take a lot of pride in their menu. and cooking. I took their photos when we were done work. I just saw it on my computer thats why I writed a review. Yes this place was so great I took photos of our last meal there. I've considered moving to carleton place because of the friendliness of them and Kit. It felt like being in that town in groundhog day or something lol. They open at like 6am so we hardly ever even bothered doing the breakfast over at the motel. We'd skip the regular continental breakfast of juice toast, muffins etc and we'd trudge right over through the snow, walk in (mind your step) and oder breakfast. it would arrive within 10 mins and wed be out of there in 20 minutes. I have never eaten at a better restaurant when you take price, portion size, and service into account. The place has a bit of a backwoods greasy spoon decor/feel to it. (lots of cedar benches, wall panelling, snowshoes on the wall and stuff) but thats not a bad thing in a place where you get awesome homecooked type food. The bathrooms are not very great I remember though usable and fairly clean from what I remember, they may present a bit of difficulty to persons in wheelchairs. (I thought I recalled some stairs up to the bathroom or inside it or something) Dont let that throw you off though. The staff is so friendly I bet they if there is still stairs involved in the bathroom (if there ever was and not a false memory) that you could ask the staff for some assistance and they would help you im sure. Everyone was so friendly and stuff like leave it to beaver.
You have to go if your starving! The plates are huge and i bet you cant even finish a plate thats how big it is. Since its under new management the service could be a bit better! .. but other then that its great!!

The same cooks are running the kitchen and the staff remains the same.
I'm still happy with this restaurant. I'm still getting the same great service/food, I've always had and love.
Going to the Gourmet reminds me of going home to my moms for a good home cooked dinner.
The gourmet tends to be the 'catch-all' of CP dining.
It's got breakfasts, lunches and dinners, and makes them all adequately.
I've never been blown-away by their food, but enjoy it enough to go there about once a month.

you get treated very well, friendly staff that go out of there way, clean and very much a family resturant. You get huge portions of nothing but home cooking..salad dressing (house) is to die for!! You will not be disappointed eating here, and you'll leave feeling to full!! I would rate this out of 100....100!!!!! We will always come here for dinner and the price for all that food for 2 people was 33.00 and change, now where could you get that in a city?? Not to mention friendly people and comfort too. Thanks Gourmet.....you've out done yourself again!!
