This review is for those who remember. Remember when it was part of Sportsworld, and adjacent to a video arcade? Remember the rollicking atmosphere and energetic serving staff? Remember tossing several pints back while throwing peanut shells all over the darkened bar area, and enjoying huge platters of cheap, but remarkably tasty food? Those days are prior to the upscale renovation. Now disinterested staff, small/expensive plates and loss of the collegey atmosphere killed the Moose for me.
We went there for my son's birthday. I have not been there since they have renovated (which was years ago). Growing up I remembered it was the place to go after a day of fun at sportsworld. The evenings was more the college crowd to just drink and be social. Most recently i took my family there on a Friday night. We had to wait 45 minutes but we didn't mind considering it had a nice lobby with a huge couch. The decor resembled the true north with of course moose heads everywhere. i really liked the stone hearth fireplace. The kids really liked the ancient snowmobile overheard. It was a great experience and the server was really friendly and hospitable. The food was okay, not great. Maybe i should have ordered the lumberjack platter or something. Overall we all enjoyed the experience and would definitely recommend to others.
The only reason we went for dinner was because we were sick of waiting for a table at another restaurant nearby which was empty, and it was closeby. The last time we had dinner here, we weren/t very impressed, but thought we would give it another shot. The good - the atmosphere is great, the service is also good considering that they are always busy. The bad - the food! yes, the majority of anything that I have eaten here is bland! I ordered the philly cheese steak. i like how it wasnt dry, however it was tasteless - same with the mash that came with it. The French onion soup however, was pretty good and we were pleasantly surprised by that, as well as the kids chicken fingers - those were tasty. Quesadillas were tasteless and so was my husbands steak sandwich. Not worth the $70 tab for 2 adults and 2 kids (no alcohol) - we did tip the waitress generously as she did a good job, but the food however needs improvement. Probably won`t be returning unless it`s for drinks only.
.Atmosphere is good and gets busy on Saturdays, so expect to wait a while (45 min. was my wait around 6:30pm) & it gets loud. .Staff was nice & our waitress did try hard (trays of drinks were too heavy - they spilled on the table & two of us at the end of the table but we were understanding about the incident). .Wings were ordered and half the order was fair (I've had grocery store frozen wings that taste much better) and the rest of the order was COLD. Honey garlic wings do not taste good when served cold - I was disappointed after waiting so long. I would give this place another try but not on a busy night and I wouldn't order wings!
After having a terrible experience in January (and writing about it here), we decided to do the unthinkable and revisit this restaurant. Things have definitely changed! We've been a few times recently and each time we were greeted with friendly hellos and treated very well. The food seems to have improved also. We are very happy to be back and hope that things continue to be great!
We had told the waiter that we were in a hurry and he didn't dissapoint. The food arrived and was excellent. Probably the best wings I've had in a long time. Meaty and perfectly done. Great experience overall!
went there sat. night for a easy going dinner party with friends. booked the table 2 wks in advance. the girls who answer he phone are not the greatest, but adequate enough to reserve a table. we had a table for 11 and seated at a really long table in the middle of the dining area squished between 2 other tables. hardly any room to move around and had to pull your chair in each time some one on the far side of the table returned. pretty loud there, but this is what type of atmosphere is here. we had 2 servers to split up the table and bills. the man we had was ok- a little sarcastic and could have been a more friendly. he did get all the bills correct- so that was good NO i did not get the infamous pie in the face (aka whip cream filled coffee filter). although i did spin the wheel for fun and i did end up getting pie in the face. the second i spinned it it went to reverse pie (aka you get to pick someone to get pie in the face) i ordered the beef fajitas and the bf and i shared 8 wings in mild and honey garlic- meh they were ok Morty's on King St. in Waterloo is way better for wings bf- order the Algonquin sandwhich- enormous!!! if you are hungry this is the meal to order. served on two long french garlic bread slices with beef and huge pile of fries with gravy. the gravy is very good. friends- steaks, platter, clubhouse sandwich, chicken Parmesan and pasta i was told by the friends who ordered the steaks it was decent, but everything else on plate was nasty (ex: vegs, deep friend onion strings and potatoes) my friends ended up bringing me a birthday cake so we did not order dessert.
Fairly good place with nice atmosphere and friendly service. Decent food, what impressed me most was the service from the staff. Will try some more regular restaurants before going there again.
Moved to Kitchener this year and been to Moose Winooski's several times. Love going there to watch basketball games or socialize with friends. The food is good but I get very tempted to get the Platter's which can be pricey. Alcohol is also pricey but there is still a good selection. Great place to dine with your family also although during the weekend it can get very busy. Servers are also very nice and treated my party and I very good every visit!
Been going to the Moose for years for "date night". Last time we went was on Jan. 21, 2011. It was very noisy and hard to hear. I told our server that we both had hearing issues and asked her to be patient with us.. She didn't check on our food (we sat in the bar, as always). We ordered calamari and it was stale. Had to return it through the bartender. The manager checked on us and we ordered a different item. A staff member came to our table and dropped a pan of garlic bread and left. We didn't order garlic bread. I had to ask the nearby tables if it was theirs. I complained about this to the server. She seemed unconcerned. When our nachos finally arrived we were ready to leave so asked for a take out box. Our server dropped a box and the bill and left. When she returned to collect the payment she seemed angry. I wanted to tell her how frustrated I was with our experience and that we were regulars but she wouldn't even look at me. This made me angry enough to leave a ZERO tip. Once the bill was paid I tried to tell her how I felt and she interrrupted me. She said, "I'm done arguing with you. Good night." She left me standing there. I explained to the manager (she seemed new) what the problem was and she offered to give us something for next time but did not mention the server. I told her we would not be back. She only said, "Oh well. That's your choice, I guess." Customer service seems to have gone out the window here. We have since found a new and more welcoming place to spend our weekly date-nights and play trivia.
Good wings but a little expensive. The atmosphere is nice and the seating is better now then the old Moose. The service is always great!!! Tvs everywhere no a great place for a first date
The new place is AWESOME for watching the big games. If you haven't seen the million tv's in the place you have to check it out. Great atmosphere and the servers are top notch. Can't get a pitcher of beer but worse things happen. Food is always good, nothing outstanding but we're always in the bar or on the patio and just looking for quick food. Haven't run the whole menu but wings and nachos are as good as they get. Lots of fun.
Nice place to play ntn trivia but just pray you don;t have Michelle as a server . You might get a refill on your drink if you are lucky and who know what bill you might get it might be yours or someone else .
This is a bar with bar food. Lower than average bar food. The wings are breaded and get soggy if you don't eat them quickly. The fish and chips were ok, but not overly impressive. This is a place that you go to hang out and watch the game on their million TV's or sit on the patio and drink beer. The price of all these items are a little bit much as well. The value is definately not good.
Been to the Moose several times in the past - first time in the new and improved restaurant. We arrived at 4 pm on a Saturday - the place not really all that busy. It took a good 10 minutes for a server to identify the fact we needed service - not sure if it was the 3 kids under 5. Anyways the orders were simplistic - for the two kids - pizza and fries. 1 order of garlc cheese bread, 2 orders of wings - one extra crispy, 1 order of buffalo chicken strips and 1 stir fry. 10 minutes later the garlic cheese bread arrived - it had been sitting and was luke warm at best. Another 20 minutes go by and no food at all- had to say something to have our kids food brought. Frustration sitting in and the restaurant is now getting busy. Kids pizza arrive - cheese, sauce and dough - cold. New pizzas were made up. Buffalo chicken strips arrive - cold. Sent back - fixed up. Wings arrive - one order that was requested to be extra crispy - was not. I will give them credit - they threw in the garlic bread free. And they then threw in the buffalo chicken strips too. Our waitress really was apologetic and did try her best. Overall we were very dissappointed - it wasn't busy - our food should have been top shelf. When we left they were lined up out the door to get - I hope they had better luck than us. Honestly with the number of like food places to eat out there - it will be a while before we come back.
I have been to the old one many times and i had just recently revisited after they finished the renovations and the place looks great, much better then before, the dining area is much bigger and the bar is a great spot to watch a game. We ordered nacho's and potato skins to start, the nacho's were a bit cold but not bad, we also ordered the buffalo chicken salad which was good and the salmon dinner. The food is pretty much the same but if u haven't checked it out since they did renovations then u definitely should.
Been there a few times and have never had a bad experience there. The food is great and so is the variety. This visit, the only complaint I had was that our server didn't come around often enough to check for refills on drinks, but it wasn't that big a deal. Renovations are still going on, otherwise I would rate it higher for amenities.
Awesome great service, quick with refills(and I drink a lot) best wings ever!
Good everything. The kitchen people must work really hard.
I found a piece of hair in my soup. ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww i will never go there again
