Everything came completely out of order. One type of salad arrived way before another. One person finished their meal before the other 3 people even got their meal. One meal didn't even arrive. We just thought it was late because the other were. But it never arrived. After asking for it twice the last dish arrived. One drink never arrived. Sorry but this is the whole point of eating a meal out that you eat with other people vs watching others eat or letting your dish get cold waiting for the food to arrive. Only when we showed an obvious disapproval and wanted the bill did they bring some complementary ice cream 2 servings for 4 people. Servers had very poor english comprehension and couldn't speak at all. Which would have been fine if they understood that food should be served together. Bathrooms are terrible. Food was descent but over use of artificial crab meat (cheap filler). Sushi fish was very fresh.
I am a patron using a disbility device and while the restaurant is not "accessible" perse they do their best to make you feel comfortable. Now aside from that, I've been visiting this restaurant for roughly 20 years. My Mother and I found it a long time ago looking for a good Japanese restaurant that wasn't all the way downtown. The have great sushi, sashimi, tempura, teriyaki, soups & my favourite Japanese style salad! Decor could use an update but it's clean and comfortable. There's a hidden entry from parking behind the restaurant or the double doorway at the front. Last night I decided to eat in for the first time since becoming differently abled so to speak. I had the Legend Boston roll with crab, Japanese mayonaise and salmon topper. It was very rich so I suggest if you try this do it with several people so everyone can have a taste, it was lovely but too rich for just one person to demolish. I had the shrimp tempura dinner which has tempura vegetables with it. Last night the tiger shrimp were lovely and fresh and the mix of vegetable composed of squash, sweet potato, onion and broccoli were very yummy. They make amazing tempura sauce. The meal comes with salad, miso soup, rice and huge plate of tempura so again great for sharing! I took home a cucumber roll for my son but seriously considered their toonie Tuesday offer which is a California roll, max of 2 given the offer, but my son is new to Japanese os a simple cucumber roll. I have plenty left over for lunch and am hoping the tempura will crisp up under the broiler today! Thanks to A.J. & staff for making it a lovely experience with my needs ;o)
Kiyomizu has excellent quality sushi!!! The maki rolls have just the right combination of rice and filling. The rice is perfect! We usually have take-out and are never disappointed. Try the spicy salmon and Kiyomizu rolls. My new favourite sushi place.
Recently discovered this sushi restaurant....very pleasant surprise. Atmosphere is ok, nothing special, but the sushi was made with some of the freshest fish we have had in quite a while. Also, sashimi portions are a decent size, and maki rolls are stuffed with fish, not filler. Not cheap sushi, but worth it. Will definitely be back.
Overall it was great. The sushi and the variety of rolls were superb. I don't know what Yoshimato (the japanese guy who reviewed above) problem is because this restaurant is definitely a 8-10 rating. Since the restaurant is korean owned and staffed, that Japanese guy was probably just being racist given the bad blood and history between the two countries. Anyways, highly recommended! See the reviews for yourself.
Overall, the food and service is good. 2 advices: 1) If your party is between 6 to 10 people, it is highly recommended to reserve seating a day before because they do not have that many large table. 2) There is free parking behind the restaurant, the entrance is a little bit east to the restaurant.
Absolutely the worst Japanese food I have ever had in my life. I am a Japanese from Japan and I know what Japanese food tastes like. Their Japanese food tastes like BAD Chinese food. It was a most horrifying experience; it was a nightmare. I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to enjoy good Japanese food.
I found this restaurant when I moved to North York area 2 years ago. I have been going to this place ever scince. The food is amazing, and so is the service. The people are great and there is just a really nice and relaxing atmosphere around you.
We discovered this place many years ago and have been going back ever since. The fish is always fresh, the service is very good, and they are always giving us appetizers on the house. Green tea and green tea ice-cream is included with all the meals - nice bonus! My favourite roll is their mekki-takki and they have since added many specialty rolls that are delicious. The decor is nothing to write home about, but who cares after the beautifully displayed food gets to the table! After trying many sushi restaurants, we always come back to this one for the best food.
