Amazing experience! Excellent soup, wonderful shrimp entree and very sweet, helpful server. Quite clear to see this is not a chain restaurant - our entire party loved it.
So disappointing. This used to be an old standby for us. Want to go for dinner, not sure where to go? Hot Belly's! You know it will be good. Not any more. Our cafe au laits were soured. When I asked to have them replaced the waitress said 'No'. I actually laughed. She came back twice throughout the meal to let us know she checked the milk, it was fine, came back the second time to let us know they did taste different, but it was the vanilla. Now, I bake. A lot. I've used different types of vanilla in different forms. Vanilla does not taste like badly soured milk. Sadly the food was sub standard as well. I wonder if they have a new chef... The pulled pork was fatty and lifeless. The mustard chicken was fine, but it came with plain white rice. Who wants plain white rice in a cajun restaurant? Argh. It was a waste of time and money.
It is true, if you prefer bland chicken fingers and not-quite-real-potato fries, then this is NOT the place for you!! The food has kick, the sweet potato frites are AMAZING (actually left one time because they had run out of them for the evening), and we love the guest beers they get on tap. We have been multiple times and have always enjoyed the food and the quality of service. Even took my parents and Grandma...they loved it too! It's really too bad that restaurants only get one chance to make you a lifetime customer. I would strongly encourage those of you who did not enjoy your first experience to give it another try. It's worth it!
Service was terrible. I have 18 years of experience and manage a restaurant and they should hire better staff. It wasn't busy and the waitress had no clue. Food wasn't bad but the whole experience was downright bad. I now talk bad about the place to customers and would not recommend it to anyone. Never left a tip and that would be the first one in my history. Don't go.
I live in the UK and would fly back to Canada in a heart beat for some of those curly fries! We loved the food so much that we went there every day we were in Peterborough. Great food, great atmosphere and reasonable prices. The best restaurant Peterborough has to offer!
