Straight, wavy, curly and even kinky hair is cared for by Studio 86's head stylist and co-owner Kahlae Clifford. No matter your tresses, you're welcome to schedule an appointment to sit in Kahlae's chair. “We never wanted to say no to people,” says the salon's other owner, Aabad Dadlani. “In Toronto, you have people from all different types of backgrounds with all different textures of hair. I think if you walk into a hair salon, they should be able to accommodate whatever your requirements are – especially downtown.”
Whether by fate or by coincidence, Kahlae met Aabad while working at that salon when he came in for a haircut and was put in her chair. About an hour later, and with no hair left, Aabad was able to convince Kahlae to join him later to hang out with some friends. “I didn't know what he wanted with me! But somehow he managed to get my phone number and here we are,” says Kahlae, laughing.
With a career in hospitality, Aabad leaves the hair styling to Kahlae while continuing to be a supportive business partner.
