Tucked into the hip West 4th Kitsilano neighbourhood, Fable offers a cozy atmosphere that instantly hints at the farm-to-table food theme.

Mason jars serve multiple purposes, from light fixtures to table candles, and the tables themselves are made of polished wood that lends a warmth to the space.

The pristine kitchen, easily seen by patrons and passers-by on the street, is an open and creative space, lined with a wooden bar that beckons customers to sit back and relax with friends.

Impeccable service & exceptional food! Seating a bit tight, but sitting at counter facing kitchen is a good show.

I have been meaning to coming here for years as I heard good things from a referral and finally did. Farm to table style food. It is a casual atmosphere with a very good selection of wine, by the glass, half bottle or full bottle. We had a duck meatball with tagliatelle & corn bread to start. My friend had their flat iron steak which was beautifully cooked med rare & I had their moist pork chop. We shared their brown sugar cake which was mega sweet! Everything including service was very good.

Where to enjoy a glass of wine in Kitsilano

Chef Trevor Bird came up with the name for this farm-to-table restaurant while he was competing on Top Chef Canada. With a menu that changes seasonally based on the availability of fresh local ingredients, Fable ranks as one of the best restaurants in the city, if not the entire country. Its dedication to local producers extends to the wine list with featured bottles from the Okanagan and Cowichan valleys as well as vineyards in the US Pacific Northwest.

Vancouver breakfast spots for tasty oatmeal bowls

Vancouver breakfast spots for tasty oatmeal bowls

It’s not hard to see how Fable – a name that cleverly riffs on the “farm-to-table” concept – has been drawing crowds daily since 2012. Owner and chef Trevor Bird is a former Top Chef competitor renowned for his fresh approach to farmhouse fare. Everything about this Kitsilano spot feels cozy, from the Canadiana comfort food to the rustic wooden beams and hand-carved signage. Stop in during weekend brunch service to enjoy a bowl of overnight oats, which are smooth and creamy without tasting too mushy. Topped with banana, trail mix and fresh berries, this light-yet-filling breakfast is a hit.

Vancouver brunch spots for morning mimosas

Vancouver brunch spots for morning mimosas

Fable’s famous Boozy Brunch happens on the last Sunday of every month and is a can’t-miss event for mimosa fans. The Kitsilano restaurant’s monthly event features half-priced brunch drinks from 10:30 am to 2:00 pm. Mimosas are made with sparkling Italian prosecco and your choice of orange or grapefruit juice. While discounted drinks might only happen once a month, the stellar brunch line up is available every Saturday and Sunday. Chef Trevor Bird serves up some of the city’s best farmhouse fare – think steak and eggs, pulled-pork Johnny cakes, and eggs Benny drizzled in creamy olive oil hollandaise.
