Soooooo good! Little did I know the owner of the Cheese Factory here in Edmonton is the nephew to Jean Guy Lainesse! The actual creator of Poutine! The Beer Cheese, the Cheese Curds, the different types of cheese and yes cheesecake and more. What can I say, but I highly recommend!
Who doesn’t love French-inspired cuisine? The Cheese Factory sets your palate ablaze with homemade “squeaky” cheese curds atop one of the best poutines in the city. If you’re aching for more Canadian tastes, be sure to top your poutine with Montreal-style smoked meat or mow into a fresh tourtière meat pie. The best part is that if you just can’t get enough in the restaurant, feel free to stop by the shop next door and pick up some squeaky cheese for the trip home.
Part restaurant, part cheese maker, The Cheese Factory has been operating in the City of Edmonton since 1999. You can buy daily-prepared cheese curds at their shop and other specialty cheese items such as: beer cheese, kajmak, European-style buttermilk and more. If you can’t make it directly to The Cheese Factory, look for them at the Old Strathcona Farmers’ Market.
This no-frills diner-type restaurant serves up a great smoked meat sandwich but for something a little fun (and different), why not try their smoked meat poutine? After all, they are known for their cheese.
