Once you spot the friendly, five-foot, clog-wearing, cheese-munching mouse tucked away behind Capilano Mall on the south side of 3rd Street, you know you’ve found your destination for great cheeses at great prices. “We’re difficult to find the first time, but easy the second time!” says Doug Martin, The Cheese Man. His North Vancouver shop always has around 150 imported and domestic cheeses on display and he's there to help you find the perfect cheese for your evening or event.
Perhaps because The Cheese Man is hard to find the first time, nearly all of his new customers come through word of mouth, spread by a close-knit community of cheese-loving loyal customers. “They bring their friends and introduce them to their cheese man,” says Doug. In fact, this is precisely how Doug first discovered this small, aromatic shop housing cheeses from around the world—he was a regular customer for a decade before he took over the mantle of The Cheese Man in 2007.
