A family tradition

I am from the US, and every year since I was little it has been our tradition to eat at the Mandarin when we visit my grandparents. The food is so tasty! We are partial to the chicken balls, but there are many other great dishes to choose from. The Mushroom egg foo yung and mushroom fried rice are also wonderful. The staff is always very friendly and helpful! There are some years we get the chicken balls, put them on ice, and bring them home to the US for my sister for her birthday. They reheat on a cookie sheet well. Our family is a bit crazy about Mandarin, but I would definitely recommend it. The service is great, the food is good and priced well for what you get, and they handle large parties well.

Cheap Yummy Consistency

Decor is 80ish, walls are covered with light beige textured wallpaper and the ambiance is accompanied by low volume Chinese instrumental music playing in the background which is good. Bathroom is upstairs though and it is a small restaurant but not too crowded at lunch time as a split level and half wall sperates the two main seating/tables area. Service is fast and although she doesn't smile alot the waitress is pleasant. The chicken in the Chicken Balls are a good size, to me an Egg roll is an egg roll and the Chicken Fried Rice is good and moist but I've had slightly better. I go there twice a month at their $5.95 lunch meal specials and with 5 different meals to choose from it can't be beat. Is it my favorite Chinese restaurant in North Bay? other than forking out more money to hit the Canadian - Chinese Buffet at King's Buffet, I would have to say it has been so far the past year. No hit and miss here.

Excellent Food!!!

The restaurant is very tiny, only about 10-15 tables. Its a bit dated, and the atmosphere is quite odd. The service is not exceptionally good. But the great food made up for it. Portions are huge. I personally ate three plates and the other person with me ate two and a half. After all that, we still had two and a half containers full of food to bring back home with us. The food was incredibly hot and fast. All that and pop was only $42.00! The menu us not very big, its all classic Canadian style Chinese food. I would recommend this place to anyone!! I will probably be going back in the next few days, one all my leftovers are finished!! :D

The best test of quality for Chinese food is their chicken balls: 80% batter, 20% chicken=bad, 80% chicken, 20% batter=good. The Mandarin is great! Great chicken balls, great honey garlic ribs. The restaurant is very clean but has a very sterile style and atmosphere - so what. The food is what you came for! Definitely the best in town.

Food was canadianized chinese food. Ordered 3 dishes and appetizers all were pretty bland. Chow mein noodles were soggy. Service was slow. Would not go back.
