There’s doing your homework before opening a business, and then there’s completely immersing yourself in the industry and becoming an expert in it. Hani Ranjbarnia, owner of Gardenia Dry Cleaners & Alterations, unequivocally falls into the latter category. “I’m not just a tailor who learned the tailoring from the Internet and just opened a dry cleaner,” she explains.
Before she opened Gardenia on Garden Street, Hani crunched the numbers in terms of how many cars drove by, what the local demographics were and how she could offer a service the people of Whitby really needed. She used her intelligence, determination and perseverance to make everything work right the first time around. As a result, Gardenia is a top-rated dry-cleaning and alteration shop in Whitby – and the place where other business go to for advice.
Always do an amazing job on alterations and repairs. I never take my things anywhere else. Their work is impeccable and they are the friendliest, most kind people.
We have had a couple of coats fixed and they were done perfectly! Ripped pockets and lining repairs. My daughter had a dress that needed a new zipper and it was done perfectly too. The owners have always been friendly and very accommodating!
They completely botched my alterations. I brought in simple cotton curtains to be hemmed and have rod pockets added. They all came back either the wrong size or missing the rod pockets.
When I returned to discuss it, the alterationist was very rude and was yelling at me. She insisted that it was all my fault. We agreed that she would fix the two sets that needed rod pockets but she would do nothing to rectify having chopped a foot and a half extra off the others. When I was leaving she was still yelling that it was my fault and I hadn't given her the right length. Incompetent and terrible customer service.
