After completing pastry school, Josie Weitzenbauer whipped up delicious desserts in kitchens in London, Paris and Ireland. Back in Montreal, she began preparing pastries at home and selling them to friends and restaurants. As demand grew, she moved into a space in the kitchen of a friend’s restaurant, but it wouldn’t be enough for long. On the hunt for her very own kitchen and boutique, she found a spot off the beaten path in St. Henri and fell in love.
Léché Desserts opened in 2012 as Montreal’s first artisanal doughnut shop. “I wanted to bring doughnuts back to the way they used to be and create something Montreal didn’t have,” says Josie. With homemade recipes, natural ingredients and an aura reminiscent of grandma’s kitchen, Léché Desserts quickly grew a following and is now both a neighbourhood sweet spot and a popular supplier of Montreal restaurants and cafés.
Leche Desserts doesn’t go easy on the decadence; its artisanal donuts come in extravagant flavours like caramel maple bacon, berry cheesecake and double chocolate brownie. The popular Saint-Henri shop has a select set of staple offerings throughout the week and some that are only made on weekends. They also have some vegan treats, and holiday-themed donuts.
What you'll find: artisanal doughnuts for delivery or to be enjoyed on-site with a good coffee, along with other sweet treats. The store can be rented for private parties and cooking demonstrations are presented to groups. Their story: Josie Weitzenbauer, who worked previously at Sardine Café and Chez Boris, opened Léché Desserts in the fall of 2012.
