At the corner of Rue Rachel Ouest and Rue Clark, the flashing yellow lights of Tacos and Tortas dazzle the eyes of all who pass by on the street. The glowing T&T in the side window and the enticing aromas coming from within invite everyone to have a taste of some authentic and traditional Mexican cuisine.
We all know what tacos are, but you might be wondering what a torta is. It’s a hot grilled sandwich stuffed with marinated meat, slathered with spicy salsa and speckled with cilantro and other fixings to make it one of the most mouth-watering sandwiches you have ever tasted. If you haven’t tried one, this is the place to do it.
This friendly little Plateau establishment is celebrating Taco Week with carnitas. Think tender pork shoulder and pork confit, hence the name! Pull up to one of their wooden tables and benches and enjoy. ($9 for three tacos)
Another Plateau (relative) newcomer, T & T – as the name suggests – specializes in both tacos and tortas – a Mexican panini of sorts. Enjoy the casual, fun vibe with an assortment of proteins to fill your taco such as pork belly, steak and Mexican sausage. Libation options abound, from mezcal cocktails to variations of micheladas.
This restaurant on Rachel Street West is offering, for $3.50, its beefsteak taco, with marinated steak mince, sautéed onions and grilled cactus. Yes, you heard right: grilled cactus. And it's really a lot better than you might think.
