The Wooly has a great, friendly, cozy atmosphere...

The Wooly has a great, friendly, cozy atmosphere, good drinks and good service, but the food is often mediocre. I'm tired of their menu, but I'm not a burger person. The poutine and antijitos were good (poutine is poutine), but the burger was bland and the veggie lasagna was very dry. Thanks to our waitress for putting up with our two toddlers without complaint. We trashed the place; we're sorry!

The Wooly has always been a great spot to bring...

The Wooly has always been a great spot to bring friends for a bithday drink (or two), they always have a great selection of pints from the local's. I was in for lunch back in Aug and they had this spicey tomato soup that was amazing for a pub. The staff is great when a group of us get together, they don't mind us being there and for that we ALWAYS tip vey well.

The Wooly has the best french fries in town, bar none!!! I love going there, but find that the service can be slow. I have been forgotten about on two separate occasions. But the food keeps me coming back.

The Wooly is one of Guelph's most established...

The Wooly is one of Guelph's most established pubs. Long before the trend of artificial neo-traditional pubs started popping up all over the place, they were there, serving it up. Trouble is, they haven't really responded to some of their not-too shabby competition. The food here is hit and miss. I've had the worst nachos of all time (1 can of bland black olives, one can stewed tomato, chopped raw onion, pinch of cumin, rubbery cheese, broil until chips are burnt and voil?!), and I've had near-religious experiences (pork loin medallions with fresh herbs in tomato sauce with pasta). Their kitchen has seen better days. It's really all about the atmosphere and the pints. If you think of the Wolly as an old friend, you don't really care that you can only fit into the bathroom by moving around sideways and you don't mind crunching through your brittle, humiliated hamburger. The Wooly has invited you over for dinner! They're great owners. Involved in the community. They source locally. They've opened your eyes to some of the best beer you've ever tasted. They have a sinful scotch collection. The only hole in this theory is that unlike your friend's place, you have to pay when you leave.
