The location is great and probably going to this restaurant is a must for residents of the area. The dining area is not upscale, but one should not expect it to be. A lot of families come here and so it was rather noisy in the interior dining room. The food was very good. All three of us were very impressed with the quality and taste of our dishes (listed below). The only food complaint we have was with the Key Lime Pie. It lacked the sharp, tart key lime flavour needed to make it successful. Furthermore, for $6.99, one would expect real whipped cream instead of the blobs of synthetic white goop served on the side. Value-wise, this restaurant could be much better. Remember, the atmosphere screams casual dining. Just a few inexpensive add-ons would have completed the experience. For entrées in this price range, one would at least expect some kind of bread service with the meals. Fish and chips DO NOT include coleslaw. Why such a standard, inexpensive side dish is not included with F&C is beyond me. Finally, there is a $2.75 premium if you want to substitute french fries as you side with sandwiches. Crazy! I am not sure if I'll be back. The food was good, but as the title suggests, for the price you pay, it could be a better rounded dining experience.
I was apprehensive about going to this restaurant after reading the reviews here but we were invited as part of a party and really did not have a choice in the matter. Let's start with the positives. The views are quite impressive - the restaurant is on a pier jutting out into the harbour. Problem is we got there around 7 pm and by 8 pm you loose the view as the harbour is dark. The interior decore is not very upscale but is appropriate to the location (kind of like being in a boat house). The service was better than i expected after reading these reviews, but I'd rate it as adequate. Not great but not bad either. But a view only goes so far. First their polices - not necessarily atypical for this type of restaurant but still annoying. As we were a party of 10+ we had no choice but to get one bill which was annoying as I did not have enough cash on me and had to get more. Also, as we were a party of 10+ we had a mandatory 15% gratuity added to the bill. I really hate this. When this is the rule (oh and we were not informed of this ahead of time) the wait staff really don't have to work their hardest as they will get the tip anyhow. And speaking of wait staff, we had a table of about 20 people total and one server. Seemed a bit outnumbered to be honest. Okay - so now for the food. For the prices, the food is nowhere up to the standard it should be. Not even close in my opinion. $13.50 for a (moderate sized at best) plate of rubbery calamari? $12.50 for a tuna sandwich (no not a piece of tuna steak - I mean tuna and mayo on white bread). Okay so for our food. We had the calamari. As I said it was rubbery (yes I know squid is rubbery - but this was like chewing rubber bands). The breading was nice and crispy. The dip (which looked like thousand islands dressing) was surprisingly tasty. My wife had the one piece fish and chips. Okay so $14 for one piece of fish and some chips is a bit steep but - if it's good given the ambiance fine. But there is the problem. It was not good. The fish was underdone. The batter was spongy. The fries were room temperature. And the real kicker, we got a small plastic tube of tartar sauce (IE the kind with a peel off lid). Seriously? You call yourself a seafood restaurant and you cannot even fake making it look like you make your own tartar sauce? I ordered the Alaskan Halibut. The fish was cooked fairly well but the portion was small. The sauce was nothing to right home about. The rice was bland. I swear the vegetables (snap peas and carrots) were previously frozen. Overall it was okay but for $26 it was not even close to being a good value. Overall I was pretty disappointed. Given the other very good restaurants in the area I cannot see myself going back.
The food took an hour to get to us. Turns out our waitress never put our order in! The service is unfriendly and incompetent. But the food was good. Our meal came to $60 in total for 2 people, quite expensive. Maybe the food was so good because we were so hungry waiting almost an hour for it to get to us!
It took about an hour for us to get our food once we had ordered it. Our server never submitted our order, or she did it wrong somehow. She never checked up on it or inquired why our food was taking so long. She wasn't apologetic, and didn't seem to care. Nobody working there seems to be enjoying themselves. Don't come here if good service matters to you. The food quality was good, but the price expensive. There are plenty of other places to go besides this one. I wouldn't come here. Total experience was maybe a 2 out of 10.
The food was skimpy and poorly prepared. The shrimp seemed to have been boiled three days ago and frozen ($11 for 4). The oysters were fresh but quite small for the $3 each price.Overall, the prices were too high for the quality and quantity. Table and chairs were cheap plastic. Only redeeming feature is the view of the marina.
