If there’s one word that describes the Shrimp Cocktail and its owner Wanda, it has to be “dedication.” The long-standing Oshawa restaurant has been serving up authentic, French-inspired meals with excellent service since it first opened back in the ‘90s. The recipe, according to Wanda, is simple: take advantage of local produce and meat and make amazing, fresh food.
“If the farmer’s market is open, I’m there picking up produce,” Wanda says. After serving and managing for over 25 years, she took over the restaurant in 2010 from the former owners. And while the menu has been tweaked, she’s stuck to what’s made the restaurant so successful all these years: quality ingredients, quality staff and great overall customer experiences.
The menu has plenty of selections, from seafood to the popular rib-eye steak served with a smoky-bacon-and-onion jus, but it all comes down to just a few items. “We use only the finest ingredients,” assures Wanda. “Everything’s made in-house. People don’t come here for something smothered in sauce, they want recipes that bring out the flavours of a few fresh ingredients.”

Been here many times, excellent food, good service, great atmosphere. Good family, special occasion restaurant, a little cramped for intimate dining, but easily the best restaurant in Durham and quite honestly, but than 90% of the restaurants in Toronto. Highly recommend you try this dining experience, even my kids love it.
Pleasant atmosphere, variety of menu items, presentation excellent. Needs more heart-smart menu items, although the Atlantic salmon is superb, more veggies, less rice would be nicer. Great Thai sauce. Great meal. Be back next week!
Unique dishes that will awaken and enliven your taste buds. Try their mussels in any sauce. Halibut and roast rack of lamb is excellent and steak is always cooked to perfection. The food is always served hot with just the right amount of spices. Make sure you leave some room for dessert, especially if baked phyllo pastry wrapped cheesecake is on the special menu. The wine menu is not bad and could use some improvement-larger selection. I?ve been here many times and never had a problem with the service, even on their busiest nights. Nice private patio. You know the food will be good when a restaurant grows fresh herbs in the garden. The kitchen is in front of the bar so you can see the cook preparing your food and maybe try to figure out the recipe. Laid back atmosphere, huge aquarium tanks suspended from the ceiling to make you relax and enjoy the food.
Everything was very nice, however the prices are rather high. The coconut shrimp dish is awesome -the shrimp are HUGE! But we each had a drink, a meal and we split dessert and our bill was over $100 just for the two of us.
