Being a huge fan of the Thai restaurant just down the street, I've passed by Riley's several times but never actually went in until a few months ago.
I was attending a going away party for a co-worker and Riley's ended up being the place of choice. It was packed when I arrived, but we had reservations so I wasn't too concerned. The host completely ignored me while I stood waiting for help for over 30 minutes. I was early, so I wasn't upset about waiting...but that's a bit much without even a hello, or how can I help?
When the rest of the party trickled in we were told that we had no reservation, and that we'd have to sit in the lounge. We were a large group and we were planning on eating, so this wasn't cool. After a few words and quite a bit of attitude (from both sides) it was discovered that our reservation was written down incorrectly, and we did get our table after all.
After that everything went well, our waiter was great, food was good and promptly served and we all had a great time. I had the veggie wrap and fries, and while it was quite good it could have had more veggies and less lettuce. However overall I was happy and the prices were fair.
We stayed for quite a while, but unfortunately we were seated right beside the live performer. Once he started playing we had to yell to hear each other, and the party pretty much broke up an hour later.
Riley's probably isn't top of my list for places to revisit, but I wouldn't count it out either. Plus I think the roof patio is a pretty cool idea!
Sure I'll go back. It's a pub with a great pub atmosphere - good selection of brew on tap. Great nachos - really good value on that - and why not? It keeps you drinking! The other food we had was fine and good value for the price. Service was friendly and attentive. Not all gorgeous as one reviewer wrote (probably an employee) but very good at the job. Want some pub grub? You won't be disappointed.
I was at Riley's today with three friends, and we sat on the rooftop patio. I ordered a coffee and was told that they don't serve coffee on the patio. I have never heard of that before.
The service was absent-minded - the wind blew over a drink and when my friend went to tell the server, he handed her a stack of napkins to clean it up, Returning change after the bills were paid took a unusually long time (there were only three other tables on the patio) I felt like we an after thought as the server prepared the bar for later.
Surprisingly, the food was quite good. Too bad, the service did not match.

This place is usually a hit. Food is great unless you opt for the wraps. My steak sandwich consisted of pieces ranging from rare to overcooked - a meal I had to wait nearly 50 minutes for. I'm not sure what they're using to make it. And the waitress we had was terrible. She ignored us most of the time, showed us attitude when we kindly asked if the food was coming soon, on top of which, she got one of the orders wrong and forgot to bring half of another one. If you get the waitress with the long blonde hair and you're not a flirt, don't expect to be treated well.
On a brighter note, the rest of their wait staff is very nice, and wing night keeps me going back there. Great selection of scotches, and a better selection of beer than most common pubs. Atmosphere is beautiful, and the food is usually very good. By the way, the lattice fries poutine is amazing! Best poutine I have had in my life.
So I love the place, but I had one terrible experience. Service can be slow at times (it gets very busy), but overall a great place with good prices.
