I must say that the poor reviews of Ye's on this site has certainly changed my opinion of the establishment. I've been to ye's 3 times (twice in Waterloo and once in theKitchener location). Although the quality of the food is passable and comparable to some of the (poorer) AYCE sushi places in Toronto, there are some sticking points. I find their sushi to be sub-par tasting and OVERLY stuffed with rice. But what is trully horrible is their service, which I now thinking back, realize to be pathetic. Some servers were kind and respectable but many including the manager were rude and pushy when speaking to us. I would say if Ye's were in Toronto, they could possibly pass just based on their menu and food alone but considering the service, it would NOT survive. Suffice to say I'll probably wont go to Ye's again.

I went with one goal in mind: to try as many different menu items as I could possibly eat. I've visited Ye's previously but normally when I go I order the Gold Dragon Roll which has never failed me - absolutely delicious and so far I think it's the best roll I've had to date. Secondary choice: Spider Roll - *very* similar to that of the Dragon roll but without the Salmon (still, very yummy). This visit however, was the first time trying the buffet and I definitely got my money's worth. The snapper, eel, and surf clam - delicious! If you dig imitation crab, then you'll love this stuff - overall not too bad, I enjoyed it. Wasn't entirely keen on the scallops - they were a bit on the watery side and would most likely not order this item again. The tofu I was surprised by, I don't have much experience with it - can't say I have anything to compare it to, but I was pleased by it - it resembled skin that you'd peel off of a chicken.. LOL over rice, but yet it was good. Sakura Lover: I've no clue what this was that I ate but I loved it - seaweed was on the outside, sushi rice, fish & a creamy sauce - will definitely order this again. Salmon Pizza: This monstrosity deserves a category all to itself! lol. Here I was selecting items listed below Sushi in sets of ONE - expecting a bite-ful and then re-ordering items I liked the most (like the eel) only to have 6 bite-sized *very* filling portions. I'll admit, I liked it but it was too much for one person (on top of everything else) lol. A cake-like deep fried rice base, topped with Salmon & a couple sauces - one being rather creamy. Very rich & sweet - tasted more like a dessert. From the selection of rolls I decided to try the Rainbow Roll this time around - no complaints, it was very enjoyable but I was slightly disappointed as I had higher expectations as to what a Rainbow Roll was - 8 pieces and it was topped with only three different types of fish plus avocado - but tasty nonetheless. And finally, after picking away at the Salmon Pizza to avoid being charged I finally ordered the intended dessert for dinner: Red Bean Ice Cream. Loved it - kinda nutty, very sweet, no complaints :) Overall service I was *very* impressed with and surprised by. Food was served promptly, orders were taken without much delay, all items were received and water was refilled without having to ask. It must have been their "off-night" LOL. Service isn't normally that impressive based on previous visits but has never been entirely bad either. Will continue to go back. :)

Ye's doesn't have good service. You're lucky if you get everything that you order, but they make up for it in mounds of sushi. The sushi is decent and if you flag down enough waitresses to keep ordering, you can have a constant stream of fish coming to your table. The specialty rolls are good (Maple Leaf roll), but some have too much mayonnaise. I didn't like the sashimi, but my dining partners did (40+ pieces!). You get a chance to try lots of different sushi and small Japanese dishes. For dessert, they have all-you-can-eat ice cream. The red bean is good (if you like red bean ice cream), but the mango is not. The Waterloo Ye's has nicer decor than the Kitchener one, but it seems to be far busier (and noisier/crazier) too. I'm no sushi connoisseur, but writing this review makes me want to go stuff myself silly again! But for $25, I'll only go when I need a sushi fix. Oh, and the Won Ton Soup is disgusting. Don't even give it a chance. (Tastes like ancient won tons in miso soup.)

Today, Ye's Sushi Waterloo was packed during lunch. There was a line to wait for tables. I find that Waterloo Ye's Sushi is a better location - their service seems better and the food a little more fresh. The quantity size per serving seems to vary every time. Ye's sushi seems to have improved in terms of not missing your order, but they often continue to give you dishes that you did not order. The price for lunch ($13) does not include sashimi, a few additional rolls (offered during dinner time only) or ginger ice-cream, but is a more reasonable price than dinner ($20?). I generally like the rolls with the crispy bits inside. The spicy rolls are with some sort of spicy mayo. This time, I tried the Ye's fried rice, and it's actually pretty good - has assorted seafood and is fried well. Generally, I find their (miso) soup too salty. Overall, it is a good value for lunch and is okay if you prefer quantity (and a variety of choice) over quality.
